Primary 3 – Monday 20th April

Welcome back everyone!!!

Hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and feel well rested. It would be lovely to see any of the fun activities you got up to over the holidays, any of the STEM challenge activities you completed or any other things you have created – remember you can share these on the school website!

You should still have some activities in your packs to keep you going, but here are some other activities you could also do this week:

  • Write a personal story about your Easter holidays – What things did you do? When did you do them? Who was with you? Where were you? How did you feel?

  • Pick one of the characters from your reading book or a book you are reading at home – create a character description of them. You can draw the character and around them write some WOW words to describe how they look and their personality or you can write a description of them underneath. Include as much information as you can on them.

  • Lead your own Number Talk at home – create some questions using adding, take away or multiplication – ask people at home to work out the answers to these and then explain to you how they got their answers. Check to see who agrees with each other! Remember that you must know the answers to the questions you ask!

Enjoy the sunshine!!!

Primary 2 – Monday 20th April 2020

Good Afternoon Primary 2! I hope you had a great break over Easter and are all happy, healthy and ready for our final term! You should now be moving on to your week 3 pack of learning that you have at home. Please work through this and I will continue to post daily blog updates with some more fun work!

Reading

Every week, I will assign each group a new reading book online. These books are suited to the reading level to each group. I will post the link for the website, as well as the username and password every day to remind you how to access the books. Please see below for the details of this week’s book.

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/?selLanguage=en&mode=hub.

When you open the site, click the pink button at the top which says “My class login”. The class login details are as follows: username – deansprimary2      password – missborsbey       Once logged in, click the button that says “My Bookshelf”.  This will take you to lots of ebooks. Please have a look below to find out which book to read. Once you have read the book, discuss what you have read. Can you identify the beginning, middle and end of the story?

Green group – Chicken Licken

Purple group – The Toys’ Party

Pink group – Ant and the Baby

Yellow group – Can you see me?

Blue group – Big Feet

Numeracy

Have a go at these addition sums to refresh your memory! Discuss the strategies you are using with someone at home.

3 + 4 =

7 + 5 =

9 + 4 =

11 + 5 =

8 + 10 =

Music

Listen to the well-known song “Into the Unknown” from the film Frozen 2. The lyrics to the chorus are below. Once you have listened to the song and sang along, can you answer the questions at the side? What is your favourite part of the song and why?

Have fun Primary 2 and I’ll speak to you tomorrow again!

Good afternoon everyone, great to be in contact with you again. I hope you are well and had a fantastic Easter. You should now be starting  work from your week 3 pack. As an additional task, I would like you to create a story map of your favourite day from the holidays. Below is an example of the Goldilocks story map we created with Mrs Stevenson.

Activity 1-

L.I. to create a story plan

S.C. I can draw pictures to show the events in my day

S.C. I can sequence my daily activities

As you can see it is a numbers of pictures rather than a written story. You could start by drawing a picture of you getting up in the morning, then eating breakfast followed by going on an Easter hunt in the house or garden etc. A little tip, use arrows to show the direction your day is taking. As an extension, you could use your story plan to help you write an account of your day. Remember you can use your jotter.

Activity 2- Addition and Subtraction to 10/20

Below is a link to a fun game which will help you with counting on and back. Have a go at both Find a Number and Count on and Back. You can use 1-10 or challenge yourself to use 1-20. Enjoy!

L.I to count on and back

S.C. I can add a number to another to give a new total

S.C. I can subtract a number from another to give a new total

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Welcome Back Primary 1/2

Welcome back to term 4 of our school year. I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday and didn’t eat too many chocolate eggs from the Easter Bunny, like I did! oops!! I’d better get logged onto Joe wicks everyday at 9am!

I hope everybody had a go at Mrs Stewart’s Easter STEM challenge this morning, I can’t wait to see all of your creations, you can email any pictures you have into the school email address.

You should now be onto week 3 of your home learning packs this week but as usual I will be posting additional activities on here on a daily basis.

Science/ Talking and Listening

With the appearance of the sunshine at long last, we have well and truly entered into the season of Spring. Spring officially starts on March 1st and runs until April 31st, although it’s been so cold lately that it’s only now that it’s beginning to feel like Spring to me. Today, on your daily exercise, or if you’ve already been out to stretch your legs go into your garden or open the window, I would like you to think about Spring and what happens during this season of the year.

Here are some key questions to discuss with an adult whilst on your ‘Spring Walk’.

What changes do you notice from the previous season (Winter)?

What do you notice about the trees, grass, flowers, fields…etc?

What sounds can you hear as you walk?

Look up! what can you see in the sky?

Look down! What can you see on the ground?

How does this season make you feel?

What can you smell in the air?

What is your favourite thing about Spring?

What foods do you like to eat during Spring?

What type of clothes do you wear?

What different activities do you do during this season and how are they different to other seasons like winter?

Once you have been on your walk, take a look at this short clip from the BBC outlining some of the changes in behaviour of plants, animals and the natural environment during the season of spring.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/science-ks1-ks2-seasonal-changes-behaviour-animals-growth-cycle-plants/zfynvk7

Music/Art and Design

Here is a link to one of my most favourite ‘Fischy Music’ songs. Primary 2’s you might remember this one from last year. Have a listen… can you join in with the words and even come up with some actions.

Can you make your own spring chick? A really easy but effective technique is using a fork and some yellow paint. I might even try this today with my little boy, although I think it might have to be a blue chicken as we’re all out of yellow paint, if you can use real life colours that would be great but don’t worry if you are low on resources like me! I will post a picture tomorrow to show you how we get on!

Good luck with all the tasks for today. I will be back tomorrow with some more activities for you all. Enjoy the sunshine.
