Calderwood Compliments:

  • On Friday, 31st January, we held our Calderwood Scottish Poetry Recital. All of the children who were in the final rounds were outstanding and we are so proud of each and every one of them.  Thank you to all our families who supported our children to learn their poems and were able to come along to watch the recital on Friday.  We also want to thank our Parent Council Chair, Jo Ferguson, and retired Peel Primary teacher Linda Povey for giving up their own time to judge the recitals.  A huge well done to our overall winners from Early, First and Second Level.
  • On Thursday, 6th February, Baird, Burns and Mackintosh clans enjoyed their Sharing the Learning event with their families. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing what they had been learning in school with their families and we appreciate the support of those who were able to make it along.
  • Ness clan put on a brilliant Connects about Scottish Battles. Well done to our learners and thank you to Miss Arkless for making this possible.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a restful break.  We look forward to seeing the children return to school on Tuesday, 18th February.

Ness Clan Connects

This morning, Ness Clan came together to share their learning with their families and the rest of the school community through their Clan Connects.

The children told us all about Scottish Battles.  They did an amazing presentation and we were treated to some amazing singing!  We are so proud of each and every one of our learners.

Ness Clan then spent some time with their adults, sharing more of their learning from the year so far.

Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to come along to support Ness Clan this morning.

Tummel’s Journey Through History!

This term, our clan has been transported back in time! Primary 5 have been delving into the days of the Scottish Wars of Independence, while Primary 4 have been uncovering the rich local history of our area with Miss Small and Mrs Scobie.

As part of our exploration of the Scottish Wars of Independence, Primary 5 have been learning about the lives of knights. We were captivated by the significance of heraldry, learning how the colours and symbols on a shield could tell a story about a knight’s family, values, and achievements. Inspired by their discoveries, the clan worked together in groups to design and create their own shields. Each team carefully selected colours and symbols to reflect their unique qualities.

Yesterday, we turned our attention to the beauty of Scots language as the pupils took part in our Scots poetry recital. We were absolutely blown away by everyone’s efforts! Each performer memorised their chosen poem with incredible skill, demonstrating clear pronunciation, expressive actions, and a deep understanding of Scots words.

After the recital, the class held a secret ballot to choose their stage winners. The room buzzed with excitement as votes were counted, and cheers erupted as the winners were announced. We are now eagerly looking forward to seeing how our stage winners get on at the Calderwood Scots Poetry Recital next week. We know they’ll do themselves and our clan proud!

Leven and Rannoch Clan Connects

This morning, Leven and Rannoch Clans came together to share their learning with their families and the rest of the school community through their Clan Connects.

The children told us all about Resilience and Growth Mindsets and the importance of thinking positively.  They did an amazing presentation and we are so proud of each and every one of our learners.

Leven and Rannoch Clans then spent some time with their adults, sharing more of their learning from the year so far.

Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to come along to support Leven and Rannoch Clans this morning.

Rannoch – Christmas Party

Rannoch Clan had a fabulous time at their Christmas party this week. The children danced and sang along to their favourite Christmas songs and played some different festive games. We played Christmas corners, pass the parcel and even had a best dancer competition! It was a lovely, fun afternoon to celebrate the festive season as a clan.

Tummel Christmas Party Fun

Tummel Clan has been brimming with festive cheer after some fantastic Christmas parties! Last week, our Primary 5s teamed up with Ben Lomond Clan for a joyful celebration, while our Primary 4s had a blast partying with Tay Clan. Both events were filled with excitement as everyone danced to lively festive tunes, with a special prize awarded to the best dancer. We shared delicious snacks and had so much fun playing games like Christmas corners together. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the season and create happy memories with friends!

Tay Clan -Christmas Party

Tay clan had a fantastic Christmas party on Monday morning.

To kick off our Christmas party, we put on our playlist of chosen songs, and had a wee boogie to get us warmed-up.  After that, we had a fantastic game of Christmas Corners.  We also had a best dancer competition.  Dancing and taking part in the games made us thirsty and hungry so we took time out for a snack and juice, provided by our lovely helpers, which was served on our Christmas placemats we had designed ourselves.  Finally, we took part in some fun dances – chu chu wa and the Macarena.  We loved dancing to these!  The time went by so fast and were sad to see it come to an end.  We had a blast together.

We loved learning, practising and performing our song for the Christmas Celebrations – Count on Me at Christmas.  We loved exploring the value of kindness and spreading kindness to others because…..kindness costs you nothing!  We hope you all enjoyed it too.

We also had a fantastic Christmas lunch together too.  Such fun and wholesome times to spend together as a clan.
