Aberdeen Clan Trip

Aberdeen Clan had a fantastic time on our recent visit to Dynamic Earth. We especially enjoyed the planetarium, 4D experience, and sharing our rainforest knowledge with an expert during our workshop.

Aberdeen’s Budget Challenge

Aberdeen Clan have been learning to recognise money and its value. After discussing the difference between needs and wants, we worked in groups to create our own shops. We had to consider how best to market our products including different pricing strategies. After some window shopping, we were set a budget and had to work out if we had enough money to buy the items on our wish list! We worked out how much more money we would need or if we would receive any change.

Stirling 15.12.23

Hello Folks,

In Stirling Clan we had the best time on our trip to Dynamic Earth. Some of the clan highlights where our visit to the Planetarium and touching an ice berg. Stirling clan done a fantatstic job recalling all their learning about the rainforest and really impressed the expert in our workshop.

We have also loved getting outside, even if it is really chilly, to develop our fundemental skills in football. Having finished basketball we are learning that there are a lot of skills in team work and communication that are the same. We have been exploring successful shooting, accurate passing and controlled dribbling in our sessions and mini games.

The Bens IDL Showcase

It was that time of the term again for P7!

When they came together to show off all the work and learning they have been doing during their IDL projects!

This term, we used Mural to collaborate and find out our areas of interest. We then tried to group them together to come up with an over arching topic. This term it was: Global Conflict.

See our work and planning here.

We spent 6 weeks learning about the following sub-topics:

World Leaders

Global Politics and Governments

Human Rights

Wars Throughout History

How the Media talks about conflict

To Assess, we created a Rubric together, so we knew what we had to do to be successful:

Last Thursday, the big event happened and we invited Primary 4-6 clans to the Discovery Den to see what we had achieved. Here is some of our feedback:

“For each and everyone I really liked how much time you put into this and how much you knew and I can’t believe how much is happening in our lives and I can’t believe it is true. I can’t wait until the next showcase.” – Harlen
“It was amazingly awesome” – Rory
“I really liked the science parts that you put in and you knew so much and I can’t wait to ask my brother more at home!” – Amel
“I loved the torture game, I tortured Yuvi!” – Lewis

“I loved the food!” – Kira W
“I loved the food and how much effort you put into making it” – Poppy

See for yourself just how fab it was!:

Dundee Clan – Water Cycle and Money

The Water Cycle

As part of our learning about the Rainforest we explored the Water Cycle.  We learnt words such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation.  We discussed what each word means and what takes place at each of these points in the cycle.  We created a water cycle in a bag experiment and placed it on our clan window.  Hopefully we will see the water cycle in action.

Money

We have been learning about money.  We have been revising the coins and notes we use, totalling money amounts and making amounts in different ways.  We also created our own shops with items and prices displayed and went shopping in each other’s shops, recording items we would like to purchase, noting their cost.  We discussed totalling amounts and starting with adding the pounds first and then the pence finding that this was an efficient strategy to use.
