Message from Miss Miller

What an emotional farewell this week. I have loved celebrating with our wonderful children, champions and families. I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, gifts and support. I am proud to have been part of the Calderwood journey, starting the school from the ground up has been an amazing experience. Building special relationships with children, families and champions has been my favourite part. Your children are a credit to you all, I am privileged to have worked with every one of them. I will treasure the memories and miss everyone dearly. I wish everyone at Calderwood the best for the future as you continue to grow and develop!

Calderwood Communication:

  • Last week we had a Parent Council Meeting about the plans for growth and for August 2023 for Calderwood Primary, you can find the minutes here. In August we will grow to 22 clans, and at the minute we are working on a clan structure with West Lothian Council. Initially we know that we will have 5 Primary 1 clans and a P2/1 clan. We will update families about the plan for August, as more information becomes available.
  • This week we had information sessions for our August 2023, Primary 1 families. You can find the information we shared here. Other information about transition into Primary 1 23/24 can be found here.
  • Champion update: Mrs Bates from Linlithgow Primary will be joining us as first level Principal Teacher in August 2023.
  • In March, Taylor Wimpey donated £500 to our Communicates Mini Champs Group to help them build a library for our school. Here is the story on Taylor Wimpey’s website.
  • Calderwood Community Cupboard
  • Free School Meals and Clothing Grant Information: Although all children in Primary 1-5 received free school meals, it is important that those families who are entitled to the free school meals grant apply, as this can get free school milk for your child and access to other support, in and out of school The clothing grant application also helps you to receive funding to purchase uniform supplies for your child. The link has more information and our equity champs are more than happy to support you with filling out the forms.
  • Calderwood Chatter in our Cosy Corner is open from 11-12pm every FRIDAY for a cuppa and a friendly chat if you need any advice, support or just a listening ear.
  • A reminder that parking in the bays behind the houses on Nethershiel Road (off Nethershiel lane) opposite the school, are privately owned by the residents. This is not a drop off area for the school.

Calderwood Compliments:

  • Congratulations to our, Be an Engineer Competition Winners and thank you to Miss Christie for organising this opportunity for us.
  • Last week our children, clans and champions in the school and nursery were part of a West Lothian Council Validated Self Evaluation It was a positive experience for us, and validated our progress and next steps. A huge thank you to our champions for all the effort they put into this experience, we will share the report with you once we receive it. Thank you to our parents/ carers who took part in the discussion groups.
  • Thank you to our families and community, who came into school this week to speak to the clans about their careers, we appreciate your time.

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend!

On this date, children should wear their usual navy joggers/shorts, trainers and on top their house community colour:
