Calderwood Communication: 

  • Free School Meals and Clothing Grant Information: Although all children in Primary 1-5 received free school meals, it is important that those families who are entitled to the free school meals grant apply, as this can get free school milk for your child and access to other support, in and out of school The clothing grant application also helps you to receive funding to purchase uniform supplies for your child. The link has more information and our equity champs are more than happy to support you with filling out the forms.
  • Calderwood Chatter in our Cosy Corner is open from 11-12pm every FRIDAY for a cuppa and a friendly chat if you need any advice, support or just a listening ear.

Calderwood Compliments:

  • Thank you Mull Clan for our last clan connects of the year! You shared all your learning about numeracy and maths in a fun and exciting way. We loved all your songs! Thank you to everyone who joined us.
  • The sun shone on us for East Calder Gala. Thank you to our choir for performing at the crowning ceremony and for those who joined us in the parade. Congratulations to those who won the art competition and races.
  • Last week our children turned into rock stars as they performed in our Rookie Rockstar Concert! All children took part in learning the songs during clan time, helping them to explore important wellbeing messages around inclusion, diversity and anti-bullying. Congratulations to everyone who performed in the concert and to our champs for organising.

C in The Park Arrangements

Access: Through the Glencoe Gate (car park gate), no access through reception. . Entrance is by wrist band only, and these will not be sold on the day, we would request that you don’t put champions in an awkward position by showing up without a ticket. Under 2s do not require a wrist band.

Pink bands: Access to the building 1:00-2:00pm

Green/Yellow Bands: Access to the building 2:15-3:15pm

Outside access is available 1:00-3:15pm

Parking: There is only access to the carpark for those offering services at C in the Park and for blue badge holders.
Your ticket gets you access to all areas:
Outdoors:

  • Games on the playground grass area
  • West Lothian Wolves in the Kick Pitch
  • Scavenger Hunt

Indoors:

  • Extra: Mocktails will be sold in the Cafe – £2 each, cash only

There will be donation buckets for any loose change.

Please feel free to bring a picnic and picnic blanket to have on the field!

In the event of heavy rain, some activities may be moved inside … If there are changes, we will update you on Friday morning.
Dress down day: Children can come to school and nursery on Friday 23rd in their C in the Party festival wear, or dress down (no donation required).

Choir and Stag Squad:
Arrive at 1:35pm at the office door, collected at 2:35 from the office door.

Calderwood Winds
Arrive at 12:50pm at office door, collected at 1:20pm from office door.

  • Children should be collected by a parent/ carer at the times above.
  • Children can wear their festival outfits.
  • Children attending should have completed a permission slip.

C in The Park: Choir, Glee & Winds

Dear parent/ carer,
We are inviting our children to perform at C in the Park on 23rd June, this email is for children who are in the groups below.
 
Choir and Stag Squad:

Nursery-P1 transition

Last week we had information sessions for our August 2023, Primary 1 families. You can find the information we shared here. Other information about transition into Primary 1 23/24 can be found here. 

Sun cream

Thank you to everyone for providing your child with sun cream, this means they can enjoy the outdoors in warmer weather. We appreciate all who have taken the time to apply this to your child on arrival, this speeds up the process of them getting outside.

Hot weather clothing

The children enjoy active play experiences inside and out while at nursery please check their spare clothes suit the season. Shoes should have closed toes to support safe play.

  • In the sunnier weather can you please ensure children are wearing sun cream to school, they might want to bring a hat for when they are outdoors.

  • This week we welcomed our new Depute Head Teacher Miss Stark and Principal Teacher Miss Connor, you can find out more about them here.
  • Thank you Orkney Clan for your fantastic Calderwood Connects today! We loved how you shared your learning over the last year, through acting song and dance! Shetland Clan shared a super exciting Calderwood Connects last week all about space! They shared their learning in a fun and exciting way. The week previous to that, Skye Clan taught us all about engineering and space, we all loved their engineering song. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
  • Thank you to the Glencourse Pipe Band who joined us to kick off Gala season!
  • Our Calderwood Knicks Basketball Team came 6th in the West Lothian Wolves silver play offs last week, a huge congratulations to them and their coaches, Mrs Robertson and Ms Morrison.
  • Some of our children have been visiting the Listening Hub, part of the East Calder Hub to support our local community. The visitors there have commented on the friendliness, listening and caring nature of our children. You can find more information about the service here.
  • Our amazing Stag Squad represented Calderwood in the Edinburgh Regional Glee Final last week, they had two outstanding performances! Photos to come soon. We are so proud of our Glee Group and all they have achieved! Thank you to Mrs McGarvey and Mrs Clarkson for leading them.
  • Last night children whose entries were awarded Highly Commended or Winners attended the – If You Were an Engineer What Would You Do? Primary Engineering Competition Award Ceremony at Edinburgh University, along with their champions. Children who were awarded Distinction also had their entries displayed at the public exhibition. Congratulations to our children for these fantastic achievements. A huge thank you to Miss Christie and our champions for inspiring our children and ensuring STEM is at priority within our curriculum and for attending the event.
