Life in Primary 6

Life in Primary 6 has been extremely exciting this week.  We’ve finished off all our assessments and been going through these to identify where our strengths are and which areas we need support in.  Most of us agreed we need to work on our times tables, division, fractions and conversion of units – then we all realised that they’re linked together and if we can work on one area –  our times tables – this should help us to close those gaps in the others areas of our learning in Numeracy.

On Monday we had a visit from ‘Voice Rocks’.  Voice Rocks is a group singing experience based on a ‘Rock Choir’ approach.  We did some warm up activities and then sang a song which you might recognise (see below).  The singing was taught by Jen Baird who told us how to sing in an easy-to-learn style which doesn’t need us to be able to read music, have formal training or have any understanding of musical theory.  Basically, we listened to the song, identified which areas were trickier than others and then sang the smaller parts of the song before putting it all back together.

We also met Mrs Gilmour on Wednesday and she has been working with us on lots of things.  We’ve already started investigating road safety posters and identified the type of language used in them.  We have been working in two groups, taking our own designs and incorporating them into larger group designs.  Watch this space, we’re coming to get you………….

Woodland and Rectangles

Here we are at the last Friday in September! How can that be? The Primary 1 pupils have had a fun and busy week as many have shared today in our learning reflections.

With the favourable weather, we have done our daily mile twice and enjoyed PE outdoors.

In maths, we investigated the properties of rectangles and worked together to create our own rectangles using square tiles and squared paper. The paper bit proved quite a challenge.

We officially launched our woodland topic starting with a KWL grid (what we know, what we want to know and later, what we have learned). The children have brought in some wonderful things for our woodland table. We are excited to get our torn paper owls on our topic wall.

The other big news this week was the introduction of homework. The pupils covered their jotters in beautiful paper and successfully completed the assigned tasks.

Enjoy your weekend everyone and see you in October!

Our Week’s Achievements in P3

We have been really busy improving lots of areas of our learning this week!  Chief amongst these was our work on Sumdog.  There was a National Challenge this week and lots of the class were taking part to try and earn us a certificate… and it worked!  We came in the top 50 classes in the whole of the UK. Wow!!!

Here are some of our achievements in our own words:

Alistair – I can’t believe I got a certificate from Sumdog, because I never got one before.

Anna – We were learning how to do our WOW words.  We were reading our books and collecting WOW words.  I found “hypnotising”.

Zoe – we were being an audience in assembly and we have never done it really quietly before.

Lucinda – I have improved in my maths on Sumdog.

Amelia – I can’t believe we were in the top 50 of all the classes in the Sumdog National Challenge!

Reese – The whole entire class did Sumdog and some of the class got certificates from Mrs Green for answering over 1000 questions.

Maha – I went on Sumdog for the very first time.

We have done really well!

A Creative week in Primary 5!

This week in P5 we have been writing poems called ‘If I were in charge of the world’. They let us use our creative ideas. In maths some groups have also been rounding numbers .
