Primary 7

What a term!! My goodness we are exhausted (well Miss Hood is anyway!).  We have been extremely busy this term in P7, from preparing for our Burns supper to performing at the Ocarina play along.  It has been a fun term and good preparation for next term which looks even busier!!

Things we are looking forward to are: Sky Academy, Cinderella and Rockerfella, Dalguise, transition days and writing our yearbook.

It won’t be long until we are preparing for our leavers’ assembly (get your tissues ready)!

We would like to wish everyone a lovely Easter holiday, filled with fun!

HAPPY EASTER

Perfect Pollinators

Well done to the Perfect Pollinators who presented the Polli:Nation initiative to the parent council last night.  We are very excited about the projects that will be undertaken between Easter and the summer and hope that parents and community members will get involved.

We will be having a Busy Bee week from the 22nd to the 25th of May.  During this time, we will need help to build an insect hotel, make-over our little bit of land across from the Elm Tree and paint a mural at the end of our school.  We also plan to help the community in replanting pots around the area.  Parents and communities are invited and welcome to come along and help out anytime during this week.

Our grand finale will take place in the form of an afternoon tea on Thursday the 31st of May.

More details about all of these will follow after Easter.  Thank you for making a note of these dates in the meantime.

Respectfully,

Mrs Gaspar and the Perfect Pollinators

Primary 6 – Skiing

Today we went to Midlothian Sports Centre.   When we arrived, we were introduced to our instructors who told us what we would be doing.

Next, were measured for our skis and boots.  Each set of skis had a special letter which we have to remember for the next time.   We were then shown how to put on our boots and how they attached to our skis.

Then we collected our helmets.  They came in different colours and sizes to fit our heads.

Once we were all ‘suited and booted’ we went to the nursery slope where we were split into two groups and then taught how to walk using one ski and then two skis.  Once we were able to walk around in our skis, we went further up the slope and then came down.  Some of us were taught how to get up when we fell down which was very handy indeed!

Finally we were shown how to ski down the slope and how to stop.  We were told it was ‘pizza and chips’ – to slow down we pointed our skis inwards to make a pizza-style shape and to speed up our skis became parallel – just like two chips.

We all had fun and here’s some of our highlights.

The children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book character and joining in with the World Book Day Assembly.

Thanks to the 4 little people who were happy to read for our class, Andie, Jack, Sophia and Lauren.

Here they are all dressed up!

Welcome back to school and nursery

Following an amazing effort by West Lothian Council Teams,  Bellsquarry Primary School and Nursery Class is able to  re-open to staff and pupils tomorrow (Monday 5th) and we are all excited to welcome you back.

Please see WLC School Closure Webpage  for more information, including regarding transport.

Breakfast Club will not be available for school or nursery children. The school lunch menu may vary due to obvious supply difficulties.

Parents should carry out their own assessment of whether it is safe for their child to travel to school from their home, depending on their individual circumstances. Parents should take extra care when travelling to school on Monday, especially as some crossing patrol staff may not be in place.

P1 – 7 pupils should enter via the west gate at the front of the school from 8.15 a.m. and go straight to the school hall.

Nursery children will enter the building from 8.15 a.m. through the normal nursery entrance where a path has been cleared.

Operational Services have cleared access paths to some doors, and ensured that all emergency exits are accessible.  Please consider your morning arrangements carefully as the playground is still full of snow, and the usual route you use may not be accessible. We appreciate your understanding and support with this.

Parking will be limited and we suggest that families may wish to car share. As per council policy we ask that parents do not bring cars into the school car park. The Elm Tree continue to kindly offer for parents to use their car park. They have requested that we do not obstruct their fire exit or entrance. Please adhere to the highway code when driving/parking as our children’s safety is paramount.

Many thanks for your patience and continued support. We are all excited about welcoming the children back and we cannot wait to hear all about their snow adventures.

Kind regards

Ruth McMaster, Head Teacher
