Applying to SAAS – BHS presentation March 2016

Students Awards Agency Scotland                     Untitled

All pupils applying to study at  HNC, HND, Degree, Nursing Diploma, PGCE (or equivalent level) at College or University must apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland every year.

See the following SAAS video for more information (more videos available at SAAS youtube channel)

Tuition fees

Anyone studying full time in Scotland, who meet the eligibility conditions, will have tuition fees paid by SAAS each year.

Tuition fees are not paid automatically when you accept a place on a course. You must apply to SAAS to have your fees paid straight to your college or university in each year of your course.  Tuition fees are not a loan – they do not have to be repaid.

Living expenses

– you may need support to pay your accommodation, books, food, etc when you are a student.  SAAS  offer bursaries  and student loans (dependent on household income).

Bursary:

Depending on the annual gross income (of your main residence) you you may be eligible to apply for a bursary – you will not have to repay this bursary.  Please see  funding_guide 2016_7 for more information.

Student Loan:

If you decide to apply for a student loan, you will have to repay it in the future.   There is a loan available of up to £4,750 a year, no matter what your household income is. You can choose how much loan you want to take.   See website/guide/SAAS youtube videos  for more information on student loans.

SAAS applications open mid April – You should apply as soon as you know the course you want to do. Do not wait for exam results. If you don’t get on the course you want, you can easily change or cancel your application through SAAS online services.

To make sure your funding is in place at the start of your course, you should send a correctly filled-in application by 30 June.
