WHAT YOU NEED: wooden spoon, plastic basin or tub
Action Songs: Head Shoulders Knees and Toes Incy Wincy Spider
*Sing both songs with actions
*Sing again this time sing super slowly
*Sing again this time super fast
*Using your wooden spoon as a beater, keep time with a steady beat and sing both songs.
*Play your favourite songs on CD or DVD and play along, keeping time as before.
*Try making up your own rhythm patterns and beat them out.
*Play GUESS THE SONG by beating out the rhythm to others. Switch over.

LESSON ONE – MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
WHAT YOU WILL NEED: paper, pencils ruler
*How many different musical instruments can you think of?
*Make a list. Draw a table with 3 columns. Write down the name of the instrument, which ‘family’ it belongs to – string, wind or percussion, and how you play it – beat, blow, strum.
*Which one is your favourite instrument?
*PLAY – ‘GUESS the INSTRUMENT ‘ miming to others in your house. Switch over and take turns.

LESSON ONE – MUSIC NOTATION
WHAT YOU WILL NEED: paper, pen, computer (if possible)
When composers write music, they record it using MUSIC NOTATION.
*Can you find out what are the notes called which have :
1 beat 2 beats 3 beats 4 beats?
*What are the lines called which the notes are written on?
Advertisers on television often use a JINGLE to advertise their product to try to encourage us to buy it and for us to remember the brand. Your challenge is to:
*Make up a jingle to advertise your favourite sweets, crisps, beauty product, video game or anything you like.
*Choose a simple tune you already know and fit your own words round it e.g. a nursery rhyme or pop song.
*Listen out for the 1, 2, 3, 4 beat notes.
*Watch some advertisements onTV to help you. Take notes as you watch to remind you of anything you might like to include in your jingle.
