We had to design, then craft a device that allowed all of our team members to draw at the same time, but nobody was allowed to touch the pen while it was drawing. We had string, one pen, tape, scissors and paper.
Here are some of our finished drawings, can you tell what they are!?
We had a super morning with Jenny Sturgeon and Roseanne Watt, who are coming into school for four weeks to do a dialect / Shetland history project with us. Jenny started by singing a song for us and Roseanne recited a poem.
We did two activities, firstly we learnt a dialect song about spinning and then we started to make our skekler hats. We will finish them next week. (2 votes, average: 1.00 out of 1) Loading...
On Monday 14th November, the P7s from all over the South Mainland went to SJHS for a STEM day. In the morning they took part in 4 different STEM activities, organised by DYW. In the afternoon they has a chance to visit lots of stalls promoting local workplaces.
Today we finally had our musical instrument contest. The criteria was to make an instrument that was creative and could play a recognisable tune. The children have been working on this for a few weeks and there was a fantastic range of ideas.
After a lot of hard decision-making Ms Scanlan thought that Fearne had made an instrument that played the best tune and Fiona, Hannah and Eveline and Isla and Kathryn’s groups had included the most creative ideas. Mrs Henderson came in to see them all and we both thought that everyone had worked really well on the task. (2 votes, average: 1.00 out of 1) Loading...
It has been lovely to see everyone back in school this year. Our topic for the first part of this term is Sound. After completing a formative assessment task, where we remembered what we already know about sound, we had a fun afternoon making string telephones and testing how well sound travels through different materials. This afternoon Emma Chittick came into class to teach us about the use of drones in the World of Work. We found out about how drones are used in lots of different jobs and then we got to go up to the hall to try some out.
We worked in pairs and had a drone and an iPad to fly the drone with. We had to fly the drones up to six posters that had been placed around the hall and then we take pictures of the posters and read tiny words on them. It was so much fun. There might be a few drones added to Christmas lists!
This is the first time that Emma has used the drones with primary school children and she was very impressed with the P6/7 class. (2 votes, average: 1.00 out of 1) Loading...
This afternoon we had a fantastic game design session with Emma Chittick. We used arcade.makecode.com to design our own game. It was quite hard to follow the instructions but everyone managed to make their own game. They looked really good.
This morning we had a really exciting workshop with Emma Chittick. She taught us about renewable energy and then we had to make a LEGO wind turbine. At the end of the lesson we tested all the turbines to see which produced the most energy. Kathryn and Isla WON!!!
