We have had another busy week. We have been starting to plan our Biodiversity group projects, deciding what to find out about, learning how to write a report and deciding who and when we will do what! Ms Scanlan is looking forward to the final presentations. We have been learning a bit more about adaptations to the environment and extinctions. In French we have been continuing to write/ talk about animals and this week we learnt to use a few more adjectives. In maths we have been learning a few more mental maths multiplication methods, before we start on the standard methods next week.

Week 2

It has been another busy week, with lots of different activities. Yesterday the class wrote imaginative bonfire poems. Today we took advantage of a beautiful November’s day, to do some maths tables work outside and we finished the day doing the Boddam Loop walk (thanks to Michelle for coming along with us).

Stop Motion Animation

The Primary 7 bairns have been developing their digital skills using Stop Motion animation. They have worked so imaginatively and enthusiastically on their Halloween creations, learning lots of tricks for effectively adding video and sound.

The final video versions will follow. I hope they don’t scare you too much!!!

 

End of Term 1

What a busy week we have had again. Finishing off all our owl pellet work. We have also been finding out about more food chains and webs, planting more trees, drawing and painting barn owls and finally listening to a fantastic performance in the hall this afternoon.

What a lovely term we have had and what a great class the P7s are.

Owl Pellets

This week we have been finding out about food chains and food webs.

Today Ms Scanlan brought in some long-eared owl pellets that had been found in Shetland. We spent the afternoon taking them apart and seeing what the owls had been eating. There were lots of bones in there and we could identify mice and rats by the jaw bones and teeth that we found. Everyone worked really hard and concentrated so well on what they were finding. It was really interesting.

Sonic rescue!

Ms Scanlan had rescued a hedgehog at the weekend and brought it into class to show everyone. We had a really good look at it and then released it into the tree area, so that it can find a safe place to hibernate for the winter. This morning Robbie told us that he had checked on Sonic and it had moved away from where we left it and hopefully is now snuggled up in a little nest.

We did some research about hedgehogs and found out some interesting facts about them and also did some French about Le herrison!

Paper Bag Challenge

The Paper Bag Challenge

As part of our Fairtrade project, had an afternoon of very hard work,  trying to imagine what it must be like to have to work really hard, in poor conditions, with hardly any pay. In areas of Kolkata, lots of children the same age as our class and younger, have to do this for hours every day and seven days a week. It is one of the reasons why Fairtrade is so important, to help families in this situation and make sure that children have access to an education.

Our class groups were paid for every 10 bags that they made and there was a rush to make as many as possible. Once we found out how much we had earned, we could have a look at how much food, rent, medicines etc cost and how much we could afford.

The groups worked really well together, but wouldn’t want to have to do this all day, every day!

Primary 7 Assembly

This afternoon Primary 7 did something a little bit different for their assembly / show of learning. They split into four groups to explain about all the  things that they were finding out about in Block 1. Each group split into two teams to make display boards and explain all about Pneumatics, Electricity, Enterprise and John Muir. The school split into their Focus Friday groups and parents joined the teams to visit each of the four workshops.

Toby did a fantastic job of timekeeping to keep us all on track, and everyone seemed to find their way from group to group.

After that, Primary 7 played a short piece from the beginning of their Radio Scotland Junior Historians show, that they made in the autumn. And finally Drew played a ‘Thank you for listening’ film that he had made using his drone.

The Primary 7s really enjoyed doing their assembly like this and said that it was a lot more fun and they enjoyed speaking to smaller groups and doing lots of activities. Ms Scanlan was very proud of all of them and hopes that the audience were too.  Well done P7s!
