First Week Back

It has been so lovely to see everyone back. What a great start to the year.
We are starting to get ready for the RSPB birdwatch, so this afternoon while the pupil council were out, the rest of us made bird feeders.
We used up the old pine cones from Christmas and learnt to tie a reef knot, so that we’ll be able to hang them from the trees. Next we made a delicious 🤢 mixture of lard, cheese, grains, nuts and sultanas and moulded it onto the cones. We will harden them up in the fridge and hang them out next week.

Windy weather seeds

We had a lovely afternoon looking at how seeds use the wind to disperse. We looked at Ash, Sycamore and Plane keys and Spruce and pine seeds and then everyone had a go at making their own. Everyone agreed that Archie’s was the coolest, it was tiny and rotated so fast!

Reusing

On Monday afternoon, while the P6s were at Playleader training, the P7s carried on their Eco project, this time by making notepads for the school. They reused paper that had only been used on one side, cut the A4 to A5, holepunched it and made up 64 A5 booklets. They worked well together and had a great production line, so that everyone joined in. Each class has now got a set of the notepads and the office too 🙂

Our First John Muir Day

On Wednesday 28th September all of the P7s had their first John Muir day out to Kergord Wood, exploring the wild!

Here is what they thought of it:

Christina – We went to Kergord with John, Davy and Mr Feeney. I really enjoyed building dens and playing ‘follow the leader’
Ryan – I really liked the den-building. I liked doing the wood work.
Eveline – I really liked the den building because I got wet and muddy, and it took hard work. I liked going over the bridges and flipping and climbing on the trees.
Liam – it was exciting and muddy and I liked playing in the forest.
Conor – it was fun building the shelters and following John, doing what he did. I liked building the shelters the most.
Leo – I enjoyed the obstacles and going under and over them. I really enjoyed climbing the tree.
Lily – I enjoyed following John , everywhere he went.
Ruben – I enjoyed building the shelters and climbing the trees.
Jade – I enjoyed following john around the forest. Building the dens was so much fun.
Freya – the John Muir day was so much fun. I liked climbing up the tree.
Emily – We got to eat in an old croft house ruin and John lit a fire. We got to climb a tree and then I fell off and face planted the floor.
Georgia – we went to climb trees in Kergord. I really enjoyed it and it made me happy.
Isabelle – The adrenaline rushed through my veins when I crawled across the logs of flipped over trees. I felt happy and grateful when we built our dens and watched the embers spark from the flames. I enjoyed getting to go to the forest and just be with all my friends.

Bikeability and Outdoor Learning

We were very lucky to have a super sunny afternoon for Bikeability and Outdoor Learning today. The P6s had fun learning to turn off the road.
The P7s split into two groups, Mr Soper took half into the Polycrub to clear it out ready for some planting and the rest of the P7s went with Ms Scanlan to take some willow cuttings and then return to help with the Polycrub. A huge well done to everyone for all their hard work, we got a lot accomplished 😃
