Eco Committee fundraiser
Thank you so much to everyone who helped us to raise so much money for Hugh Harrop’s appeal for the Hillswick Seal Sanctuary. We raised a fantastic £210.
Dialect and celebration assembly
On Wednesday we had a really lovely morning. Lots of family and friends came to watch the dialect singing that Maria Barclay has been doing with each class. It all sounded really wonderful and we enjoyed homebakes afterwards.
Library and Tesco visit
On Thursday we had a really interesting morning in Lerwick. Primary 6/7 spent an hour in the library with Marghie West. She showed us all around and it was really interesting to go upstairs, downstairs and into the resource centre. As it was Poetry day, a few of us wrote poems.
After a snack and a play in the park, we went to visit Tesco. We learnt about the different types of foods that they stock, looked around their storage area and went into the freezer – brrr!
We then went to look at the fruit and veg and it was amazing to see the range of countries that they come from – lots of food miles! Finally we tasted lots of different foods and some of our class even liked the grapefruit juice!!!
Primary 6 prepare homebakes for the dialect singing assembly
Primary 6 really enjoyed making peat for the dialect event.
Maasai Village Meeting
We have been finding out about the Maasai people and the impact of tourism in their region. We had a village meeting and everyone had to play a role. There were village elders, park rangers, hotel workers, young maasai, shopkeepers and ecolodge owners. We found out about the lives of the people and then had a meeting to explain what the problems were. There were some really good presentations and lots of questions too.
Kenyan Climate Studies
In groups, we have been finding out about the climate in different areas of Kenya and we compared this to the climate and landscapes in the UK. We found out about the Western Highlands, The Coast, the Rift Valley and Central Highlands and the Northern Lowlands.
Here are our posters.
