Investigating friction

Today P4a were learning about friction.  We designed an investigation to find out which surface created the most friction on a toy car.  We came up with an hypothesis and tested it out.

We had a great discussion about whether this investigation was truly a ‘fair test’ or whether other factors may have affected our results.

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year and welcome back to our third block of primary 4, we hope you all had a lovely break.

We are starting this block with our Scottish focus.  We will be studying the poem ‘The Wally Dug’ (author anonymous) and using this to look at some Scots dialect and use of language.  We will be looking at a range of Scottish artists and using their styles and techniques to inspire some art of our own.  In numeracy we will be recapping and extending our knowledge of multiplication and division.  There are lots of games and rhymes you can use if you wish to support this leaning at home and we will update our ‘Supporting learning at home’ tab in due course.  We are also learning about fractions and information handling through our practical maths.  Our science focus will be on forces and we have lots of exciting practical investigations planned which are designed to allow the children to explore and investigate their learning around this topic.  Our reading, spelling and grammar will continue along the same format as in the previous 2 blocks; we will be covering comprehension skills,  fact or opinion, conjunctions, singular and plural and dictionary skills. In health and wellbeing we are looking at food journeys, how advertising affects our choices and being resilient.

As always, if you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and we hope you all stay healthy and well this 2022.

Best wishes,

The P4 team.
