Spooky fun !

Our design brief was to create a lantern for our glowing pumpkin balloon.

Here are some of the amazing 3D lanterns we designed.

What’s amazing is that they all look so different. We enjoyed having some personalisation in our designs.

We are hoping to have some spooky fun tomorrow night with our glowing lanterns.

Happy Hallowe’en everyone !

Bug detectives

  • Yesterday afternoon we turned into bug detectives and we searched the area near the MUGA. We were hunting for living and non-living things. Then we recorded what we found and discussed it with our partners. It was fun to take our learning outdoors and we enjoyed exploring the school grounds.

Measuring shoes

Here we are Problem Solving. We drew round our partner’s foot then drew round our own foot. We compared the size of our feet.

We realised that if we want to know the measurement of our feet then we need to use the same size of measure – standard measure.

We used our Cuisenaire rods to measure each of the footprints so that we were using a standard measure.

We mixed our rods up and made different combinations but, we always arrived at the same number in the end.

It was good to get active when learning in Maths.

Zones of Regulation

We have been thinking about our emotions. We spoke about different ‘zones’ of emotion – red, green, blue & yellow and the types of emotions we might feel in each zone. We have been talking about ways of getting back into the ‘green’ zone when we feel upset, cross or sad.

Giant Country

We LOVED reading the BFG in block 1. We tried to imagine what Giant Country would look like using the description in the text to help us. ‘The ground was flat and pale yellow.’

‘Great lumps of blue rock were scattered around.’

‘Dead trees stood everywhere like skeletons.’

‘The mountain was dark blue.’

We mixed shades of yellow & blue to create our background. Once they had dried, we added skeleton trees using charcoal. We cut out rocks and mountains from our blue painted paper. Finally, we added a pencil drawing we had done of the BFG. We think we’ve done a great job of re-creating Giant Country. Thanks to Mrs Ryalls for her brilliant display skills!

A busy day

We had a very busy Friday.

We learned where our new playground zones were, we learned about Walk to school week and the exciting Shoes Tuesday when we can wear funky shoes to school.

We also had a very exciting Assembly where we found out which month our class had for the school calendar. We were so excited when our class got February.

We now have to come up with some creative ideas for our page!

We also spent  time choosing a library book to take home to read for pleasure.
