P7M Robert Burns Team Task

This morning we completed the first part of our Robert Burns topic. We had to work together to display Robert Burns’ name on the classroom floor. The only resources we had were ourselves! The time limit was 20 minutes.

Learning Outcome

By investigating a Scottish historical theme, I can discover how past events or the actions of individuals or groups have shaped Scottish society.  SOC 2-03a

The higher order thinking skill was synthesis: I can work successfully with others using organisational tools to complete a task in a given time.

After Lucy and Morgan took turns to read out the task sheet, you jumped up and started moving the tables to create a space on the floor.  It was so hard for me to stand back and watch you without answering questions or giving suggestions but there was a lesson to be learned! Here is what I saw and heard during the twenty minutes. Which ones are positives and which ones can you learn lessons from?

see-hear

After 20 minutes, the task was over and we had a good debrief to discuss what went well (W.W.W) and what would could have been done better (E.B.I). Here is your self assessment:

We compared your own self-assessment with my assessment and highlighted what we could use to improve any future tasks. Here you are in action.

robert-burns1

You need to choose one of Robert Burns’ poems to practise and recite for our annual school competition on Friday 27th January. You must rehearse your poem and be prepare  to recite to our class and one other class by Monday 23rd January. You must let me know your chosen poem by Friday 13th. Please use the weblinks below to help you find a suitable poem. The poem should be challenging but manageable. As you are P7, you are expected to choose a poem with a minimum of 4 verses (16 lines).

Poem Hunter – Robert Burns

Scottish Poetry Library

BBC – Burns Poems (has some audio links to allow you to hear the correct pronunciation)

As usual there will be one winner chosen from each class after reciting your poem to our own class then another class within the school.

The following are the points you will be judged on:

  • Good, clear diction.
  • Pace
  • A good understanding of the poem.
  • Correct pronunciation of Scottish words.
  • Good facial and vocal expression conveying the sentiment of the poem.
  • Variation in pace and tone.
  • A moderate amount of appropriate gesture if it comes naturally and if it enhances the poem.
  • Over-dramatisation should be avoided as this distracts the audience and detracts from the flow of words.

You must recite your poem in verse, not singing.

We are also looking for anyone who can play Scottish music, sing a Scottish song or can perform a Scottish dance. Please let Mrs Davidson know if you are able to perform at the Burns Assembly.

sumdog

https://www.sumdog.com/sch/bishopton-primary-school

Our school has been entered into the Renfrewshire Sumdog Contest which runs from 8am on Friday 25th November until 8pm on Thursday 1st December.

To take part, simply play Sumdog’s maths games. If you do not have your Sumdog Username and Password, please ask your teacher. Scores are based on accuracy, and questions tailored to your level – so everyone has a fair chance.

To make contests fair every pupil is limited to 1000 questions. However, it’s fun to take part even if students only answer a few questions.

The motivation is to climb the leader board and beat all other participating schools within Renfrewshire. You can also win rewards for your Sumdog account. Click here to find out more about the prizes.

Here are some things to keep in mind during the contest:

  • You can play at any time.
  • For the score to count, the Renfrewshire Maths Contest activity must be showing in the green panel on the left of the your screen when you click to start each game.
  • Your scores are based on correct answers.
  • A class’s score is the average of the scores from all students from that class who take part.
  • To appear on the leaderboard, at least 10 pupils from each class need to play.
  • As some pupils have limited computer access, every pupil is limited to 1000 contest questions. However, their free logins let them keep playing other activities afterwards.

P7 My Merit – Profiling

Dear Parent/carer,

Your child has been completing an online profiling resource, My Merit since the beginning of Primary 7. This is the profiling resource that continues on to Park Mains High School and helps your child to record their personal achievements, both in and out of school.

Please ask your child to show you their online profile by logging on to https://www.mymerit.net/. Your child has their Username and Password. They will continue to add to their profile throughout the year and will start to upload files (images and photos) as evidence. Please complete the tear-off slip below and leave any comments once you have read their profile

Many thanks,

P5-7 Origami Masterclass

This afternoon, we had our first origami masterclass. We discussed the origins of origami. The Japanese word “origami” itself is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: “ori” (root verb “oru”), meaning to fold, and “kami”, meaning paper.

You then had a choice of origami instructions to follow in order to make some paper creations! I was impressed with your co-operative skills when helping each other and sharing resources. I hope you show off your folding skills and works of art to someone at home. Visit the website below to find more instructions:

P7M – Food Inspired ICT Art

This afternoon we combined our Food topic with Art and ICT to produce masterpieces, inspired by Giuseppe  Arcimboldo (1527-1593).  He was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of such objects as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. We looked at a few of his paintings and discussed our opinions, what we thought we saw and if the title matched the  image.

We then used Pic Collage on the iPads to create our own collage using clipped fruit and vegetable images from the internet. We tried to add as much detail as possible, thinking carefully what fruit and vegetables best looked like facial features and body parts. What do you think?
