Maths with Miss McDowall – Feedback Phone Calls

Dear parent/carer,

If your child has been working with me in maths, I will be calling tomorrow during the day to give you a quick update. I will be calling from my mobile so it will appear as ‘Caller ID Hidden’ or ‘Unknown Caller’. I will leave a voicemail if you are unable to answer and I will try to call you back this week or next week.

Kind regards,

Karen McDowall, Principal Teacher

Halloween Plans

The BPPC made up a Halloween booklet for every pupil which was given out on Wednesday 20th October. Pupils can complete this at home and should post pictures of their completed work on the BPPC FaceBook group. These do not need to be returned to school.

On Friday 29th October, pupils may dress up in a costume to celebrate Halloween. They should bring £1 for the BPPC and a donation for the Food Bank.

For ideas of what to donate, please visit:

Bishopton Library Books

Dear Parent/Carer,

Before the lock down in March 2020 some pupils had taken out books from Bishopton Library as part of their class visits. If you have any books with a Bishopton Library label on the first page, could you please send them into school or return them to Bishopton Library. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Miss McDowall

Maths Week Puzzle Solutions

Last week we had a very successful Maths Week Scotland at Bishopton Primary School. Every class participated in a range of maths and numeracy activities that challenged them and made them think, connect ideas and create!

We won £50 from the Renfrewshire Attainment Team for activities that had a link to the Maths Week theme ‘Our World’ and had multistage involvement and challenge.

The pupils enjoyed the Bishopton House bird themed daily puzzles and some adults at home even gave them a go! Here are the puzzles and solutions to put those curious minds at ease.

Wednesday: Think, Notice, Wonder by P7CK

@AttainRen #MWSREN #MathsWeekScotland

So many thoughts, observations and curiosities about the photograph from P7CK. Great effort!

  • I see a yellow house next to a blue house (N)
  • I see a lot of windows (M)
  • There are lots of rectangles (J)
  • There are two houses (F)
  • There are two doors so it could be a semi detached house (K)
  • I am thinking about symmetrical stuff when I look at this house like the windows and it repeats as well (J)
  • There are patterns on the leaves (M)
  • I wonder how many angles there are on these as there are right angles on the window (A)
  • Where is this house? (F)
  • Is this paper or blue (E)
  • I notice the windows are even (L)
  • Mostly the windows are the same size and shape (F)
  • I wonder how many rooms there are inside and if every room has a window (E)
  • I wonder if this is a house or if it is flats (C)
  • Maybe one of the doors is a fire exit (K)
  • Is there a garden and what size it is like the area? (E)

Wednesday: Think, Notice, Wonder by P3AM

@AttainRen #MWSREN #MathsWeekScotland

What amazing and varied thoughts from P3AM for today’s Think, Notice, Wonder image. I love the way everyone brings their own experiences and questions to each photo.

The windows on the blue house are made up of 6 small rectangles on the top and 6 small rectangles on the bottom. That is 12 panes altogether. (Jessica T) You can just see the reflection of the tree in the 1st window at the top of the blue house on the left hand side We think this is the tree from the yellow house. Craig, Robb & Emma O Where does the wee road in between the houses go to? What size would the loft be if there are windows right at the top of the house? Harry T What county might these houses be found in? Henry The door is a vertical rectangle but the window above it is a horizontal rectangle. Innes

Maths Week – Bishopton Daily Puzzle

@BishoptonPS @AttainRen #MWSREN #MathsWeekScotland

As part of Maths Week Scotland we will be posing a Bishopton House themed Daily Puzzle. The pupils will be given a chance in school to solve the problem but we would like for the adults at home to give it a go. Use your knowledge of number, the four operations and problem solving strategies (working backwards, guess/check/improve, draw a picture, look for a pattern). Please reply to the blog post or reply to the Tweet to give your answer.

Give it a go because practise makes progress!

Next week is Maths Week Scotland 2021 from Monday 27th September to Sunday 3rd October. We have many fun activities planned in school to celebrate maths and numeracy related to this year’s theme of ‘Our World’.

All pupils are entered into the Sumdog Maths Week Contest. This starts on Friday 24th at 8am and ends on Thursday 30th at 8pm.

We have arranged a visit to the Co-op. We would appreciate if you could please provide your child with £1 to spend at the local Co-op.

Please have a look at the activities suggested in the booklet below for ideas of how you can develop maths and numeracy at home. If you do any of these activities, please post photos of them to your child’s Teams or tweet them using the handles at the top of this post.
