Thursday 8th October

We were thinking about our Wants and Needs today. In groups we sorted cards into either Wants or Needs. With some pictures we had to have discussions to make a choice.image

Then we came together to find out whether we agreed. This led us to a great discussion about the Wants and Needs of people around the world.image image

In in number we were making human sums. This is the sum 6 +4=10. We had to have a plus sign person and an equals person. Why not try some human sums at home too!

Wednesday 7th October

This afternoon we worked co-operatively together to finish making the sukkahs. These temporary buildings are used by Jewish people during the festival of Sukkot. Meals are eaten in them and some people sleep in them too. The roof is covered in branches so that the moon and stars can still be seen at night.image

We made Lego tables and chairs too. Don’t the sukkahs look great!

Tuesday 6th October

Today we completed our Momotaro dance/drama.  We filmed ourselves doing a performance.  We tried hard with our facial expressions and movements.  I’m afraid the video is too big a file to put up now but I hope you will be able to see it soon.

Monday 5th October

We looked online at Japanese food.  Onigiri are rice balls with a secret filling.  We weren’t too keen on the traditional Japanese fillings so we used cheese and cucumber when we made ours.  If you think they are delicious you can say “Oishi”.  This means delicious in Japanese.  Tomorrow we will write a recipe to tell you how to make them.

Friday 2nd October

Today we were thinking about our learning in numberwork. We made our own sheet including our own ideas.

This sheet has ideas about before, after and between, Japanese number symbols and a number line.

This is sheet includes numbers to 30 and Japanese symbols to 10.

We were counting up to 30 and back down to 0. We are getting better at thinking about the numbers 19 and 29 in the sequence. Keep practising!

Onset and rime

We have been practising – “at” words e.g. cat, mat etc and making up silly “at” stories. Next week it will be “an” words, so can you make up a silly story to share with us.

Reading

A new reading book will be given each Friday. The days for reading are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so please make sure that pupils have their reading books in their bags each day.

Look for 2, 3 and 4 letter words in the reading book. Give some examples.

Can you find any words with our phonemes in them?

Which is your favourite page? Draw the picture and tell someone why it is your favourite.

Maths

We have been learning about 3D shapes. Have a look around your house. Find 5 real life examples of 3D objects, draw the shapes that you have found and name them e.g. a tin of soup is a cylinder.

Why not try to make a model using 3D junk e.g. kitchen rolls, cereal boxes, etc.

HWB

Now that the nights are getting longer, think about safety when people are out and about.

Draw a picture to show what people might wear to stay safe in the dark. Think about bicycles and cars too to help you some ideas.

Thursday 24th September

Today we were thinking about the Japanese numbers from 1 to 10. We did the actions which help us remember them, then we thought about ways that we could remember the Japanese symbols too. ” The number 9 looks like a crane.” ” Number 8 looks like a volcano.”  Can you think of any ideas?

In  the afternoon we used a net of a cube template to make a small box for Eid sweets. image

It it was a bit fiddly folding and sticking a 3d shape, but we managed very well.
