Super symmetry!

Today the p2 boys and girls were using mirrors to explore shapes and find the lines of symmetry. It was pretty tricky but we all worked it out in the end.  It was also really good fun to make funny reflections by moving our mirrors around.

What great working!!

Today everyone has been learning well and putting great effort into their activities.

We worked with our partners to help us decode new words.

image

Then we read to our partners.

We drew learning maps to help us think about the ways that we learn.

In in the afternoon we learnt that sound is made by vibrations. When an object vibrates it moves the air around it.  We saw the ruler vibrate and could hear the doooyng noise it made. Listen for different sounds this weekend – are there sound that you don’t like?

Firework words

Today we have been doing different work about fireworks.  We were learning about firework safety and we were working with a partner to work out new words.

image

We were thinking of firework words and then the computer programme made a firework display for us – it was really exciting!!image

The board is shaking, that is why it is not very clear, but the effects and noises were brilliant.

To stay with the day’s theme, our number work also involved fireworks.

We we are practising jumping when we add to get the correct answers.

Have a happy and safe Bonfire Night and well done to everyone for being so cool when seeing the nurses today. I am very proud of you.

Another wet Wednesday

We had a busy day learning more about different types of words. We built on our learning from last Friday to add adjectives to our nouns. The book title ‘The Ghost in the Castle’ is a bit boring so we thought of adjectives to make it more interesting. ‘The green ghost in the haunted creepy castle’ sounds much more interesting, doesn’t it??

We looked in our reading books to find nouns and adjectives. Some of us found loads of nouns, but had to think of our own adjectives like a silver moon, a symmetrical bay, a black tree.

image

We we had to find our jigsaw partners – one had an adjective and one had a noun . The pieces were hidden in our trays!

image

This afternoon we started to learn about sound. We thought about how sounds are made playing different instruments. We can pluck, tap and blow to make sounds and learnt about the word vibration.image

We had a go at tapping the boom whackers. The longer tubes make lower sounds then the smaller tubes. We need to experiment more with these cool instruments!!

Super symmetry!

P2 have started revising and developing their knowledge and understanding of symmetry.  We had great fun today at our symmetry stations.  We made symmetrical designs by folding and cutting paper.  We used peg boards to make colourful symmetrical designs with a partner.  We also matched halves of houses to make a symmetrical house.  We started using words like symmetry, fold, same, opposite and symmetrical to talk about our maths.

We have been learning the phoneme a-e (magic E; the e tells the vowel to say its letter name). Continue to practise wh and ng phonemes.

Homework ideas:

Common words:

will, with, that this, them, then

http://www.ictgames.com/wordreader.html

Onset and rime

  • We have started to revise – “in” words e.g. pin, shin, chin, win, etc and making up silly “in” stories. Next week it will be “ab” words,so you make up a silly story to share with us. How about using – fab, grab, dab, crab and so on in your sentences

Reading

  • A new reading book will usually be given each Friday. The days for reading are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so please make sure that pupils have their reading books in their bags so that they can complete reading activities.
  • Can you find any words with our phonemes in them?
  • Where is your story set? Tell an adult about the setting and how the setting can change in the book.

Number

We have been practising our number bonds to 11 (11 + 0 = 11, 5 + 6 = 11 etc) and adding and subtracting within 11 and 12. These are fun games to help you practice: http://www.interactivestuff.org/sums4fun/colquiz.html

Symmetry

Have a look for symmetrical patterns or shapes in your house. Draw them into your thinking jotter. Why not try creating symmetrical patterns at –

HWB/Interdisciplinary Learning

We have been learning about keeping healthy by choosing healthy foods to eat. Why not try some of the activities here – http://www.foodafactoflife.org.uk/Activity.aspx?contentId=56&sectionId=61&siteId=14

Remember to tell us about any games you have played on the computer or any other ways that you have been developing your skills for homework.

Happy Halloween weekend!

We used the Halloween theme to practise adding and subtracting within 11 and 12.

imageIf if we had the sums correct, the bat showed up well against the orange background.

We started to learn about NOUNS. We thought about Halloween things, people(characters) and places.

image

Can you think of any more Halloween nouns?

Have a fun, safe weekend and we will see you in November!!

Push bees

Thursday 29th October.

In literacy we tried out some new activities: making silly sentences, spelling words using picture clues and letter sizes and making word jigsaws.

This afternoon we acted out our little plays about things that are fair and unfair. There was some great expression and the acting was very realistic- I think that some of our class are destined for the stage!!
