Literacy

Reading -We will be working on understanding a text by questioning (who, what, where, when, why). Talk to your child about the events in their reading books and ask them some questions. Read a favourite bedtime story and ask questions. Can your child give you a ‘who, what, where, when or why’ question? They may wish to record their answers by writing them down remembering capitals and full stops.

Spelling

This week’s spelling words are;

Maths

We will be continuing to learn more about 3-D shapes (cube, cuboid, pyramid, cone, cylinder and sphere) and how shapes have ‘faces’. Go on a shape hunt around your house. Find items that are each shape. Draw each item, label it with the shape name, count the ‘faces’ on each shape and record this beside your picture.

RME

We will be working on the theme of ‘sharing’. Encourage your child to share something with others in your family (a toy, sweets, their learning etc). Talk about ways to share things fairly. Recall times when they shared something and draw a picture or take a photograph to stick in your jotter.

Today we had a visit from some Tae-Kwon-Do experts who showed us how to stretch, punch and kick.  We had a great time learning and taking part.  imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage image

We were counting up in tens and adding on the unit numbers today to find the total.  Then we played a game on the computer to help us with our counting in tens.

Literacy

This week’s sound is ‘igh’. Practise reading the list of ‘igh’ words out loud every night from your sheet and time yourself. Can you get faster each night? Record your best time each night and stick the sheet in your jotter.

Can you write a silly story using as many of the words as you can?

We will be continuing to work on understanding a text and whether statements are true or false. Talk to your child about the events in their reading books and give them some statements. Which are true or false? Read a favourite bedtime story. Give some statements which are true/false. Can your child identify the correct one? They may wish to record their answers by writing them down.

Spelling

Use the 5 rules of spelling (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) and write a sentence using each word. Remember a capital and full stop.

Maths

We will be working on counting things up to 50 by putting them into bundles of 10 and adding on the units to find the total eg 2 lots of 10 and 7 is 27

Use real objects around the house eg pasta, sweets etc and count out different numbers putting them in bundles of 10. Record your answers as drawings and write the number beside it.

We will also be learning the names of 3-D shapes (cube, cuboid, pyramid, cone, cylinder and sphere). Go on a shape hunt around your house. Can you find objects that are each shape? Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

We had fun learning in the Learning Zone today.  We printed the 2-D shapes that make up the cube, cylinder, cuboid and pyramid and made pumpkin soup in the haunted house.  Some of us wrote letters to post to Percy in his hut.

Bonfire Night Celebrations

We will be learning about the origins of bonfire night and why we still celebrate it today. Try this game to design your own firework display. Maybe you could draw your display in your jotters.

imageimageIn the gym today we played ‘The Witches Cauldron’ game.

For drama we were miming out actions to accompany the ‘Mr. Night Time’ poem.  We were also being nocturnal creatures like cats, bats and foxes.

We also got to use the giant i-pad to play games as a reward for winning the ‘Cool Class Cup’ last week.
