What a wonderful assembly Primary 2 put on for the whole school!  We all enjoyed Scottish poems, songs, games and dancing as well as listening to clear confident speakers who introduced each item.  Well done Primary 2 for all your hard work and thanks to the parents too for supporting the children in learning their poem and lines to say.

Well done to a proud girl for being ‘star of the week’ at her dancing club.image image image

We all enjoyed listening to some more presentations today on our Scottish theme.

Remember tomorrow, Friday 3rd February is our Scottish Assembly. If the children have anything tartan they may wear it to school.  Otherwise uniform as normal and we have tartan sashes the children could put on in class.

Homework w/b 30.1.17

Literacy

Punctuation

We will be learning about punctuating stories with capitals and full stops. Can you write a short story putting in all the capitals and full stops in the correct place? You can write about something you did, your favourite thing, an imaginative adventure or facts about something. Draw a picture to go with your story.

Sounds

This week’s sound is’ew’. Here are some activities to do as homework.

  • Try playing this game; http://www.galacticphonics.com/longvowels/ew/interactive/ewattack.htm

  • Practise reading the list of ‘ew’ words every night and time yourself. Stick the sheet in your jotter.

Spelling

The spelling words for this week are;

are, my, her.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) and write each word three times and use them in a sentence.

Reading

Practise your reading every night talking about the characters and events that are happening.

Maths

We will be working on more addition and subtraction sums within 10 and up to 20 and learning how to set them out horizontally and then vertically.

Try this game working on different levels and formats; http://v7.k12.com/sample_lessons/a

ctivities/images/swfs/building_expressions_final.swf

Make up some vertical and horizontal sums of your own in your jotter.

Yesterday we celebrated Robert Burns day with a Burns Supper.  We piped in the haggis, listened to The Address To The Haggis and The Selkirk Grace and then tucked into a feast of haggis, needs and tatties before finishing off with shortbread and Irn Bru.  It was delicious!  After that the entertainment began with poems, songs and dancing.  What a great time we all had.

Today we went on a visit to Tesco Craigmarloch to find out more about Scottish food.  We learned how to check the packaging to find out which products were from Scotland and we got to draw, write and even taste some Scottish food.

Tomorrow we will have our own ‘Burns Supper’ to celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday.

Homework for w/b 23.1.17

Literacy

Sounds

This week’s sound is magic ‘u-e’. How many ‘u-e’ words can you think of? Can you find any in a book? Make a list and add to it each time you find another ‘u-e’ word. Read your list out loud every day. Try this game; http://www.starfall.com/n/make-a-word/long-u/load.htm?f

Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Spelling

This week’s spelling words are;

  • you, they, all.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) and write each word 3 times in small and capital letters.

Reading

Practise reading your book every night. Talk to your child about the events in their reading books and ask them some questions. Draw a picture of their favourite part.

Maths

We will be working on the relationship between adding and take away sums, or how they belong to a ‘family’ eg. 6+4=10

4+6=10

10-4=6

10-6=4

Start with number 5 – can you make a ‘family’ of numbers that live together using 4,1 and 5 eg

4+1=5

1+4=5

5-1=4

5-4=1

Each ‘family’ should have 2 adding and 2 take away sums. Do the same for 3,2 and 5. Then try all the ‘families’ for 6, 7 and 8.

Scottish Project

Keep working on your personal project on an aspect of ‘Scotland’. It can be on any Scottish topic of interest (food, Robert Burns, Loch Ness Monster, Scottish dress and tartans etc). The project will be presented to the class so the children should practise saying/reading it out loud. It is be returned by Monday 30th January.

As Wednesday 25th January is Burns Day the children could come to school wearing something tartan (scarf, ribbon, kilt/skirt/dress, hat etc).
