Easter Bonnet Parade

A reminder that the Easter Bonnet Parade is this Thursday 30th March.  As homework I would like you to help your child decorate a hat for our Easter Bonnet Parade.  There will be a prize for the best bonnet.

Design a Red Nose Competition

Send your completed entries in by Thursday 30th March so they can be judged.  There will be a winner for each class for the best design. The prize will be an Easter egg.

Revise all the sounds and spelling we have learned so far as well as read lots of books from home, on-line or the library over the Easter holidays.  Do lots of mental sums too to increase speed and accuracy.

We worked with a partner today to set the analogue and digital clocks to o’clock and half past times.

We were in the learning zone today using our imaginative, creative, recording, pattern making and problem solving skills.   We had great fun.  

Literacy

We will be learning about alphabetical order. Can you write the names of the people in your family in alphabetical order? Write other words in alphabetical order? (toys, sweets, items around the house etc).

Sounds

This week’s sound is ‘oy’ (boy, royal etc). Practice reading your sound list out loud every night recording your best time. Can you beat your best time every night?

Write a sentence with some of the ‘oy’ words. Remember capitals at the beginning, people’s names and the word ‘I’.

Spelling

This week’s words are – about, your, day.

Practice each word in capitals and small letters. (3 times each).

Reading

We will be reading non-fiction books over the next few weeks. Discuss the contents page, glossary and index (if the book has these pages). Talk about the vocabulary used and what it means.

Choose your favourite piece of information and write about it, drawing a labelled diagram to match.

Maths

We will continue to work on ‘time’ and ½ past the hour in analogue and digital times.

Complete the worksheet on o’clock and half past and stick it in your jotter.

Homework Jotters – could the green group bring in their homework jotters on Friday so the teacher can look at them.  Thank you.

We have been learning all about numbers, fractions and time.  What a good time we had playing the games.

For our warm up in gym today we were being rainforest animals.

We were using the apparatus today to do different types of balances.

• write a silly story using as many ‘ow’ words as you can.

Reading

Practice your book every night. Ask and answer questions about the story to help understanding.

Maths

We will be working on ‘time’ and the days and months, as well as o’clock times in digital and analogue form. Practise these activities;

• say the days/months out loud. Ask questions like ‘What day comes after Saturday?’ ‘What day is before Monday?’ ‘What day was yesterday?’ ‘What day will tomorrow be?’ Ask similar questions for the months.

• Complete the worksheet for months of the year.

• Draw clocks in your jotter with o’clock times (analogue and digital times).

Well done to a pro

We were using the percussion instruments today to make rainforest animal music.  We chose the best instruments to make it sound like each animal and composed a piece in our group.  Then we performed it it to the rest of the class.  We made music for elephants, snakes and butterflies as well as lots of other animals.  What an super orchestra we had!
