We have been learning some Scottish dances to perform on Friday when we celebrate Robert Burns’ birthday. We will sing Scottish songs and recite Scottish poems and rhymes.

Try to learn the 2 poems sent home so we can say them at our Burns Day celebrations. You can also wear some tartan if you have it.

COMMON WORDS – read these words aloud from your word wall or list.

Group 1 – soon, take, their, them.

Group 2 – came, here, her, before   PLUS common words from the word wallets.

SPELLING

Practise writing these words in your jotter in waterfall writing.  Do  3 of each word.  Write a sentence with each word too.

Group 1 – about, your, day.

Group 2 – for, see, now.

Use Sumdog to practise your spelling skills too.

Sounds

Group 1 – ‘oa’ sound (coat, soap, goal, road etc). Practise reading the  ‘oa’ words from your sound booklet each night.

Group 2 – Practise reading aloud the ‘sh’ and ‘ch’ sound words from your new sound booklet every night.

READING

Read your book each night being careful to read the words on the page accurately (don’t add extra words, miss out words or read different words from the ones on the page). Talk about what is happening in the story. Can you find any of this week’s common words, sound words or spelling words in the book?

HANDWRITING

Practise these letters in small and capital letters –

cC, aA, dD

  • Remember to start at the correct place and make the capitals and tall letters touch the top line in your jotter.
  • Make tall letters and capitals twice as big as the small letters.
  • Sit your letter on or below the line.

MATHS

Make up adding sums using 3 small numbers. Try totals no bigger than 10 first, then totals to 20.  If you can, use larger numbers. For example –

3 + 2 + 4 =              Do lots of these.

7 + 4 + 5 =              Try adding bigger numbers like this.

10 + 30 + 4 =         Try adding bigger numbers like this if you can.

Do some every night to get good at it.

How many different ways  can you split the number 11 or 12 up to make adding sums? Can you find the ‘twin’ facts too? There are 12 facts to find for number 11 and 13 facts to find for number 12. Here is an example –

5 + 6 = 11    etc.                                               4 + 8 = 12     etc
