We talked about using satnav or Google maps to find out how to get directions to different places. Another way is to plan your journey on a map. We discussed the grid references on a map and how to describe each square using numbers and letters and how they could be used. Simple grids were easy to understand but it got very tricky as the grids got bigger!
BBC Bitesize has a game called Grid Zoo which was a great way to practise our new skills.
We had beautiful blue skies for our trip up to the town centre this afternoon. Each group had a shopping list, money and a bag in which to bring home the goodies. The children behaved perfectly and had a great time choosing the best deals to buy in plates, napkins, cups, prizes, etc for our Christmas party. Well done P2.
Mrs Macleod has organised a class trip to the town centre to buy provisions for our class party. This links into the work she and the class are doing with money. If the weather is good enough, we hope to walk up to the town centre tomorrow afternoon. Please make sure you wear a warm/waterproof jacket and hats, scarves and gloves. Remember to wear sensible boots or shoes.
This week Hanukkah is celebrated by Jewish people all around the world. Today we completed our menorahs and made Stars of David – 2 symbols of the Jewish faith. We also tasted donuts which are traditionally eaten to celebrate Hanukkah. Of course we still had to fit in language work and our Nativity practice! It’s been a busy day!
We have been practising for our Nativity show and I’ve got to admit we sound fantastic! I’m sure you will all enjoy the show. P2 will have grey tshirts and headgear provided by the school. They will wear their school trousers or skirts during the performance. Please make sure your child has indoor shoes to wear so they don’t have to go up on stage in their wellies!
Today we started finding out about why Jewish people celebrate Hanukkah at this time of year. We started to design Hanukkah Menorahs.
Throughout the school, pupils did activities to celebrate St Andrews Day. In P2, we learned about St Andrew and had a class quiz. In the afternoon we learned some Scots words and even sang “Heid, Shooders, Knees and Taes”. Miss Ferguson treated us to some Irn Bru and shortbread too. Can you say the body parts in Scots from the next few pictures?
This morning we used our magnetic boards to practise our phoneme “ai”. We love working with our partners to help us learn. In the afternoon we were practising our Scottish dancing. We hope we can do it at our Christmas party. A big thank you to Kayla Agnew for a piece of her delicious birthday cake!
Today p2 were challenged to decorate a Christmas tree and make the design symmetrical. It seems we have a class full of symmetry experts because the results were fantastic! The pupils got a chance to peer assess their partner’s work to check if they had fulfilled all our success criteria. (These are a few of our “buzz words” in school – your children should be able to explain what they mean). Well done p2!
In primary 2 this term we will be looking at ways in which people celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah. We will find out why people celebrate these festivals and in what ways they are similar and different. We started today with ways people celebrate Christmas and we even decorated our class tree! (I KNOW it’s only November – sorry!)
Today the p2 boys and girls were using mirrors to explore shapes and find the lines of symmetry. It was pretty tricky but we all worked it out in the end. It was also really good fun to make funny reflections by moving our mirrors around.
The class are working on will, with, that, this, then, them as spelling words this week. They LOVED having to stick out their tongues at their teacher to make all those th sounds!
