What a windy day! We built a weather station today which should be able to measure how fast the wind is blowing and in which direction. We will put it out tomorrow and record our findings. We checked the weather forecast on the BBC and compared it with our outside thermometer and the weather conditions we observed. It was quite accurate.
I hope you all got home safe and sound and have a cosy afternoon and evening at home to escape Storm Henry.
In gym today we did our warm up and then had to come up with different ways we could balance. We worked with a partner and made up a sequence of 4 balances. After a bit of practice we showed it to the rest of the class.
***********please make sure the children have a gym kit and indoor shoes on a Tuesday and Thursday for gym lessons. Also, it might be a good idea to remove earrings on these days too ********************
As you know, p2 are looking at information handling this term. Last week the children found examples of information around the school and classroom. They wrote questions for the class. Today the questions were made into a quiz. The pupils had to find the answers by looking around the information tables, lists, register, day planner etc. They all did very well!
We have started our weather topic. We were talking about temperature and that it can be measured with a thermometer. We watched a short video about using a thermometer and then played a matching game to help us practise reading thermometers. We also put a special one on the window to measure the temperature outside. It was very cold – just above 0 degrees C.
This afternoon the children were set a challenge to melt a cup of snow the quickest. We had to keep the test fair so we had to use the same size of cups with the same amount of snow and start at the same time. The children came up with lots of ideas to melt the snow the quickest : put it on a radiator, cover with a hat, blow on it, hold cup in your warm hands, etc. No-one expected the winner to be stirring it!
Our teacher told us about a hotel made of ice where she had gone on holiday. We went outside for a short time and made snowbricks and built a snow wall. We reached 5 rows high before it fell over.
This afternoon we looked at some pop art portraits by Andy Warhol. We liked the bright colourful blocks of colour he used. We started a pop art portrait of Robert Burns. Watch this space to see the final results soon!
This term p2 will be discovering different ways to organise information and how information can be used by different people. Today we went on an information hunt to see some examples in our school. We found labels, tables, lists, files, registers, signs, menus and timetables. We took notes with our partners as we moved around the school. When we got back to class we recorded what we had found in our jotters. We organised our information as a mind map.
We started the day making 3D Christmas cards. We hope you like them (if you are lucky enough to get one!). After playtime we were very lucky to have a visit from Mrs Tierney. We had great fun singing, dancing and playing our instruments. Thanks for coming in Mrs Tierney. We are getting much better at grid references and even managed to crack the codewords. We finished off with a trip to the learning zone. We are looking forward to Christmas but we still have one more day of fun at school. See you all tomorrow!
What a day! This morning we had the excitement of finding out about the ISS and Tim Peake rocket flight to join ISS for 6 months. We watched the rocket take off and we all cheered! In the afternoon we enjoyed our pantomime. It was Robin Hood and it was fantastic!
