Homework w/b 27.2.18

Sounds

This week’s sound is magic ‘i-e’ (ride, kite, ripe etc). Practise reading the ‘i-e’ words highlighted in yellow at the back of your homework jotter.

Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Spelling

We will continue to practise these words – too, he, she, we, me, be, was.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (LOOK, SAY, COVER, WRITE and CHECK) and write each word in rainbow colours 3 times each. Challenge – can you write sentences using 2 or 3 spelling words in the same sentence? Try a few different sentences. Remember capitals and full stops.

Reading

Read your book together each night.

We will be continuing to summarise the main points in a story. Talk about the most important things from the BEGINNING, MIDDLE and END of the story.

Common Reading Words

Practise reading your words in yellow from the word wall at the back of your jotter and any words from your word wallet. Do this EVERY night.

Maths

We will continue to learn how to add on from number 9 using a 10 number frame.

We learned 9 + 7 is the same as 10 + 6.

Draw two 10 frames in your jotter and use small objects to help you with these sums (use smarties/coco pops etc to count with).

9 + 6 =           9 + 8 =           9 + 5 =

9 + 7 =           9 + 9 =           9 + 4 =

9 + 10 =          9 + 3 =           9 + 2 =

Fairtrade Fortnight

Over the next few weeks the children will be learning about Fairtrade farmers and their produce. There will be a competition to design the best Fairtrade mascot. Use the entry form provided and include your name, class and house on it. Give your mascot a name, maybe a superpower and colour your mascot using bright colours.

The winner will receive 5,000 house points and runners up will be awarded 3,000, 2,000 or 1,000 points.

There will also be a Fairtrade tuck shop running over the next two weeks where the children can buy Fairtrade chocolate snacks. The prices will be 30p or 50p per snack.

World Book Day

This Thursday 1st March is World Book Day. Your child may come to school dressed as a book character or wearing their pyjamas ready for a ‘bedtime’ story. We will be doing different literacy activities and our theme will be animals and the zoo. You may bring in any animal or zoo stories or soft toys.
