Homework Grid

Your child will be coming home with a Homework Grid. On the grid are some ideas to try with your child in literacy, maths, topic and French. Try to do at least ONE thing each week – if you can do more that would be great. Colour in the boxes of the things you have done and use your homework jotter to record anything.

Maths

We are learning about coins up to 20p and how to make up the same amount using different combinations (eg 9p can be 5p + 2p + 2p or 2p + 2p + 2p +2p + 1p etc.

15p can be 10p + 5p or 5p + 5p + 5p etc). Can you use real coins and make up the same amount in different ways.

Sounds

‘oy’ (toys, boy. enjoy, annoy etc)

Spelling

don’t, old, I’m.

Try writing a short story using each spelling word. Remember to use capitals and full stops and perhaps a few joining words too. Make sure your writing is neat as well.

We were practising our copying and pasting skills in the ICT suite today, as well as playing some number games to help with our addition and subtraction sums.

We have been learning all the possible ways that add to 20. Write out the story of 20 and learn the facts too.

We have also been learning how to tell the time in hours and half hours using analogue and digital clocks. Try these games to practise how to tell the time.

We enjoyed learning about halving numbers  by playing games. We know that if we know our doubles, we can work out a half of a number.

Triceratops and Tyrannasaurus helped us to half numbers today in our fraction work. We learned that if we know our doubles, we can half numbers easily.

We are learning about our bodies and what each part is called and what it does. Today we found out about the skeleton. We have over 200 bones in our body, 26 in our feet and 27 in our hands. If we didn’t have a skeleton we wouldn’t be able to stay upright and we would be all wobbly!

We had to put a jumbled skeleton back together and then used chalk to draw skeletons for our art work.

Maths

We have been learning about halves. Try halving different things to share – remember, make sure each half is exactly the same size (we can’t have a ‘big’ half or a ‘wee’ half!) Here are some ideas.

Make a sandwich and half it in two, half a bar of chocolate, half a slice of toast, cut half of a cupcake and share it.
