Homework for w/b 23.1.17

Literacy

Sounds

This week’s sound is magic ‘u-e’. How many ‘u-e’ words can you think of? Can you find any in a book? Make a list and add to it each time you find another ‘u-e’ word. Read your list out loud every day. Try this game; http://www.starfall.com/n/make-a-word/long-u/load.htm?f

Complete the worksheet and stick it in your jotter.

Spelling

This week’s spelling words are;

  • you, they, all.

Use the 5 rules of spelling (Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check) and write each word 3 times in small and capital letters.

Reading

Practise reading your book every night. Talk to your child about the events in their reading books and ask them some questions. Draw a picture of their favourite part.

Maths

We will be working on the relationship between adding and take away sums, or how they belong to a ‘family’ eg. 6+4=10

4+6=10

10-4=6

10-6=4

Start with number 5 – can you make a ‘family’ of numbers that live together using 4,1 and 5 eg

4+1=5

1+4=5

5-1=4

5-4=1

Each ‘family’ should have 2 adding and 2 take away sums. Do the same for 3,2 and 5. Then try all the ‘families’ for 6, 7 and 8.

Scottish Project

Keep working on your personal project on an aspect of ‘Scotland’. It can be on any Scottish topic of interest (food, Robert Burns, Loch Ness Monster, Scottish dress and tartans etc). The project will be presented to the class so the children should practise saying/reading it out loud. It is be returned by Monday 30th January.

As Wednesday 25th January is Burns Day the children could come to school wearing something tartan (scarf, ribbon, kilt/skirt/dress, hat etc).
