Fraction action

We have been splitting shapes into halves and quarters and today we have learnt that we can work out fractions of numbers.

We know that the denominator (bottom number of the fraction sign) tells us how many parts the whole has been split into, so we know that we can share into 2 groups.

First of all we shared people into groups – half of 6 is 3. Then we used the halving boards to make groups by sharing the correct number of cubes. We learnt that even numbers can be shared equally, but odd numbers mean that there is one left over.

In assembly we learnt about a Fairtrade Breakfast. Lots of our food is grown in countries a long way away and the farmers live in difficult conditions. When we buy Fairtrade products we are helping these farmers get a decent wage for their work and this allows their families to get clean water, food and an education- all of the Rights which we take for granted.

A small change for us can make a huge difference to the growers.

The Learning Zone is now Jungle themed, so we have been exploring!image image image image image

Ask your our child which skills they were developing through their adventures today!

Springing into action!

Spring is here, buds are forming and p2 are jumping around!  In the gym we were trying out different sorts of jumps.  We remembered to swing our arms and spring up to jump, and bend our knees when we landed.   We then linked up a balance with one of our jumps.
