Happy Halloween weekend!

We used the Halloween theme to practise adding and subtracting within 11 and 12.

imageIf if we had the sums correct, the bat showed up well against the orange background.

We started to learn about NOUNS. We thought about Halloween things, people(characters) and places.

Can you think of any more Halloween nouns?

Have a fun, safe weekend and we will see you in November!!

Thursday 29th October.

In literacy we tried out some new activities: making silly sentences, spelling words using picture clues and letter sizes and making word jigsaws.

This afternoon we acted out our little plays about things that are fair and unfair. There was some great expression and the acting was very realistic- I think that some of our class are destined for the stage!!

Looking forward to working out who you are tonight. I am just going to make sure my broomstick is ready to fly tonight! See you later my pretties_ ha ha ha !!!!!

Wet Wednesday

Sorry the blog is later than usual. There were some hiccups with the site just after 3pm! Today we were looking at a 10 frame which has 10 squares or rectangles and helps us to work out our number bonds to 10. Why not try at home with a piece of paper, play with an adult older brother or sister?

We started to think about things that are fair and unfair. We are talking in groups to get some ideas and tomorrow we will be acting out the scenarios. These will be recorded and there should be some excellent photos tomorrow showing great expression and actions.

Sorting snacks

Following on from yesterday, we were talking about healthy choices for playtime snacks.  P2 sorted out snacks into healthy choices and ones that are for a treat.  Everybody was able to sort them no problem but now we have to start deciding to eat them!  Why not bring a piece of fruit to school for playpiece?

Monday 26th October 2015

Primary 2 were thinking about how to keep healthy today.  We learned about why we need food and what type of nutrients there are in different foods.  We all had pictures of food and had to find other people in the class who were in the same food group as us and then stick them onto our eatwell plate.  We thought about healthy meals and we knew the healthy choices to make but agreed that we didn’t always make the healthy choice!

We’ve been going mental!

To practise our mental maths we went to the ICT suite and used a programme www.ictgames.com/numberFacts.htm. We played the game and played bingo at the same time!!image

This is a great way to develop our mental maths skills!

Here are the photos from yesterday.

Have a a great weekend, everyone.

Thursday 22nd October

I am very sorry, there are no photos today.

Everyone was very pleased with their writing about a character in their reading book. We thought about what they looked like, what they wore and what they did in the story. Our teacher was very pleased with our first attempt at this activity.

We practised playing dominoes and are getting better at recognising numbers by the patterns on the dominoes without having to count the dots.

In the gym hall we were absolutely brilliant at passing and trapping the ball. Look out for a Primary 2 football team – we certainly have the basic skills!

Hopefully there will be photos on tomorrow’s blog.

What a busy day!

We made our own mini wh phoneme books including sentences, questions and lists.

Then in the afternoon we had a great time developing our skills in the Learning Zone.

Writing Halloween words in the glitter.

Making a “Des Res” for zombies, ghosts and skeletons.

Finally we were thinking of how we show our responsibilities in different places.

Tomorrow we will be thinking about rules in different places. Is there a bedtime rule in your house?

Monday 19th October 2015

Welcome back after our October holidays!  We had a very busy day today and couldn’t believe it was already 3 o’clock when the bell rang!

One of activities today was to design a new tiled floor for Mrs McMillan’s kitchen.  We had to investigate different 2D shapes to see which would be best to tile with.  Mrs McMillan didn’t want any gaps she might trip on.  P2 decided that squares, rectangles, triangles and hexagons made the best tiles.  Shapes with curved faces and pentagons left gaps.IMG_0724 IMG_0725 IMG_0727 IMG_0726
