Reading and Creating Timetables
In our maths lesson today we were learning how to read different timetables. Β Then we had to create our own timetables for the Micro Tyco- Paper Airplane Competetion. Β As we started we realised we needed to take into consideration lots of information before we could even begin to create the timetable. Β We found it tricky at first but got there in the end.
Maths- Units of Time
This morning we filmed our creative dances. Β Mrs Pollock thought they were outstanding. Β We gave each other feedback and enjoyed watching Β our performances on the iPad. After playtime, we looked at different units of time and the relationship between them. Β We then closed our eyes and predicted when 1 minute was up. Some children were very good at this. Β Finally, we guessed how many star jumps we could complete in a minute.
Writing Formal Letters
Today we wrote to many different people asking them if they could come to our school for Careers and Enterprise Week. We’ve asked people if they could support our week by coming into school and explaining about their jobs. Β In our lesson, Β we also revised how to address and envelope and how to fold a letter correctly to fit in an envelope.
Literacy- New Books
Digital Learning
This afternoon in the ICT suite, we created a poster to inform people what the RUTF bars are and how they are used by UNICEF. Β We had to search for images of RUTF bars on google image then copy and paste the image onto a word document. Β Then we started to write some information about the RUTF bars.
Visit to Summerlee Museum
Yesterday we braved the wind and rain and went to Summerlee Museum. We learned even more about Victorians. Β We dressed up as Victorian children, played with Victorian toys and wrote with slates and nibs with ink. Β We also got to see a belt used to punish Victorian children; we were glad not to have gone to school during Victorian Times!!
P5/6 Homework Week Beginning 25th January
Maths
Real-life time β at home or in their local surroundings, ask your child to look for representations of time shown on clocks, whether on real clocks or on posters, in newspapers, etc. both analogue and digital format. Ask them to draw them in their homework jotter.
Have a look at this website:
http://www.snappymaths.com/other/measuring/time/time.htm
There are many worksheets which involve telling the time both in analogue and digital times. There are also many ICT games to play.Β Pick at least 6 activities from this website.
Design a clock, watch or time keeping device. Bring it into class to show the rest of the pupils.
Times Tables β Keep practising them. Many childrenβs scores dropped last week in their tables test.
