Writing Formal Letters

Today we wrote to many different people asking them if they could come to our school for Careers and Enterprise Week. We’ve asked people if they could support our week by coming into school and explaining about their jobs.  In our lesson,  we also revised how to address and envelope and how to fold a letter correctly to fit in an envelope.

Digital Learning

This afternoon in the ICT suite, we created a poster to inform people what the RUTF bars are and how they are used by UNICEF.  We had to search for images of RUTF bars on google image then copy and paste the image onto a word document.  Then we started to write some information about the RUTF bars.

Visit to Summerlee Museum

Yesterday we braved the wind and rain and went to Summerlee Museum. We learned even more about Victorians.  We dressed up as Victorian children, played with Victorian toys and wrote with slates and nibs with ink.  We also got to see a belt used to punish Victorian children; we were glad not to have gone to school during Victorian Times!!image image

P5/6 Homework Week Beginning 25th January

Maths

Real-life time – at home or in their local surroundings, ask your child to look for representations of time shown on clocks, whether on real clocks or on posters, in newspapers, etc. both analogue and digital format. Ask them to draw them in their homework jotter.

Have a look at this website:

http://www.snappymaths.com/other/measuring/time/time.htm

There are many worksheets which involve telling the time both in analogue and digital times. There are also many ICT games to play.  Pick at least 6 activities from this website.

Design a clock, watch or time keeping device. Bring it into class to show the rest of the pupils.

Times Tables – Keep practising them. Many children’s scores dropped last week in their tables test.

It is our last opportunity to gain as many KID POWER POINTS.  Keep a record of the points you earn for the next fortnight.  Think of ways/activities that will get you active and earn points.  Soon we will be handing the bands to another class can you create a list of top tips to help them get the best from the bands?

Time – Self Assessment

Next week We will looking at time in maths.  This morning we self assessed to see where we should start our work. Each child decided where they should start their work and we have 4 different groups. We also completed our tables test and some of the scores had improved and others were poorer.

Grub Grab

Today we looked at the unequal access to nutrition around the world.  Each of us were given a country and we had to line up according to the colour of the country (see photograph).  According to the colour of the country, we started at different starting lines. The wealthy or developed nations were closest to the healthy snacks.  On the signal we had to gather as many healthy snacks as we could.  This activity helped us to see how unfair it was for the least developed nations.
