Thriller Writing

This morning we planned then wrote our very own thriller stories about two children getting lost in the woods and they find something or overhear something that leads them to danger…

The children thought it was hard but great fun writing their very first thrillers.  They are looking forward to writing another thriller next week.

The Human Ear

This morning we completed a reading comprehension on the Human Ear.  We were encouraged to skim and scan the passage and diagram quickly to get the  main ideas then we read the text again more slowly.

This afternoon we labelled a diagram of the ear.  We had to label our diagram to explain the different parts of our ear.

Halloween’s Coming….

  • Interview family and friends. Find out what types of things they did when they were children for Halloween.  Can they remember any songs, rhymes or poems they were taught?
  • Use the internet, to research Halloween. Think about – Why do we celebrate Halloween? Halloween Customs and Traditions, Halloween Superstitions and Fascinating Facts About Halloween.  You could present your research as a power point or in your homework jotter.
  • Will you be guising at Halloween or perhaps going to a Halloween disco? Prepare your costume and make sure you can tell a joke, do a dance, sing a song or recite a poem.

How Sound Travels

This afternoon we looked at how Sound travels.  We found out that Sound travel best through a solid because the particles are closest together, then through a liquid and travels least of all through the air.    Children acted out as the particles in a solid, liquid and gas.

Homework W/B 10th October 2016

 

Literacy:  Revision of commas in a list and using a colon to introduce a list.

Write these lists out using commas and colons where appropriate.

  1. Robert got his bat and ball. He put it in his bag along with his trainers and his shorts and his T-shirt.
  2. Susan tidied up the garden. She put the rake and the spade and the hose in the shed. She put the wheelbarrow and the bike and the pool in the garage.
  3. Joe loved to go to the park with his friends Tanya and Jason and Fiona and Colin.
  4. The dinner ladies make delicious meal like pizza and spag bol and chicken tikka wraps and curry and macaroni.

French:

Research 5 French boys’ names and 5 French girls’ name.  Give each child an age.  Practise spelling out the French names and saying the child’s age in French.  Use the French alphabet sheet to help you but remember to bring it back to school.

Comment ça s’ecrit?

This afternoon we were given a new French name and age.  We then met other new French children and asked them their name, how to spell it and their age. Altogether we met with four pretend French children.

Français

This afternoon we were practising spelling our names using the French alphabet.  We thought the vowels were the trickiest letters.  We used our French display,  a little French song  and practised with our partner.
