Christmas Jumper Day

Today we all wore Christmas jumpers to raise money for charity.  We had a lovely Christmassy assembly then we helped the little P1s with their Christmas cards. In the afternoon we looked at Victorian Christmas traditions then made Santa mobiles. image image

Writing- The Nightmare Just Before Christmas

This morning we planned another great story.  This week we had a Christmas theme- “The Nightmare Just Before Christmas”.  We looked at WOW words then shared some ideas, first with a partner, then with the class about our stories.

How many different languages can you say “Merry Christmas” in? Record all the different ways in your think jotter.

Thank you letters
Christmas is a time when we have lots of be thankful for. Writing thank you cards and letters is great practice to encourage from a young age. Children can write thank you notes for presents, or even a special card for Granny thanking her for the delicious Christmas cake! These cards can be read out aloud as part of Boxing Day celebrations or perhaps at a meal time

Planning a Christmas walk
While we often look forward to cosy moments inside, don’t forget that Christmas is a great chance to get out and be active! There are lots of fun (and often free!) things you can do with your children this year. You can take a trip to the park and kids can enjoy collecting leaves, spotting wildlife or feeding the ducks. Alternatively, you can plan a trip to see a Christmas lights display or see some brilliant Christmas window displays.

Poems, Rhymes and Songs
It’s time for all the Christmas-themed songs and rhymes to be played! Why not teach your children your favourite Christmas song, poem or rhyme? What do you the different words and motifs mean? In return, they can then write and illustrate their own festive poem or song to share with you

Have fun with your friends and family and enjoy spending time together!!!!

Wishing you all a peaceful and joyful Christmas,

Mrs Pollock

Showing Care and Love for Others at Christmas

Yesterday and today we have been exploring ways of showing care and love for others at Christmas.  We looked at how John Lewis have joined Age UK to help some of the million older people who will go a month without speaking to anyone.  We watched the John Lewis to advert, listened to the music and discussed how it made us feel.  We then captured some of the images from the advert campaign which really made us think about showing care and love.

Christmas Lunch Fever

We  just about managed  to finish our literacy and maths work before Christmas Lunch fever hit P5/6. We finished our antlers,  got our noses painted and off we went to have our delicious lunch singing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

If you haven’t already, remember to bring in jeans/ trousers/leggings for the Nativity.   Please bring in donations for the Christmas party food too.

Nativity Dress Rehearsal

Today we have had our Nativity dress rehearsal. Mrs Pollock thought we sounded very good and our hard work and practising has paid off.  Some people still need to bring in their trousers/jeans or leggings for the show.   In preparation for tomorrow’s Christmas Dinner we made our reindeer antlers.
