Edinburgh Trip

We are very excited about our school trip to Edinburgh tomorrow! In the morning we are looking forward to visiting Greyfriars Bobby and in the afternoon we will be going on a spooky tour of Mary King’s Close! We learned lots about these places during our Edinburgh topic and now we cannot wait to visit them in real life!

The forecast is looking good for tomorrow and the sun is expected to be shining so please put on some sun cream before you come to school.

Please remember to bring a packed lunch in a disposable bag so it can be thrown away when you are finished.

Hopefully, there will be an opportunity to visit the gift shop at Mary King’s Close so if you wish to buy something please bring some money – no more than £5.

You can come to school dressed down for the trip. We will be doing a lot of walking so please come wearing some comfortable footwear.

Finally, we are hoping to return to school at 3pm, traffic allowing! However, if we expect to be late we will contact the school as soon as we can and parents will receive a text message with an approximate return time.

Check out our blog throughout the day tomorrow! We will be keeping you updated with our visit to Edinburgh and uploading lots of pictures!

2015 Summer Challenge

images

Today we were invited to Abronhill Library to find out about the 2015 Record Breakers Reading Challenge! The theme of the day was Record Breakers and we heard three stories narrated by Fergus and Ron of Mac-A-Story.

The first story was about Finn McCool who was a Knight in golden armour and needed helpers to assist him on his adventure to defeat the giant and reclaim stolen goods. In total he had seven helpers. Jody was the light fingered thief who helped to capture the goods and Dominic was the best archer in the land who shot the giant to defeat him!

The next story was about Atlantis who was a Princess who the fastest runner in the land. Nobody was able to defeat her.

The final story was about Thor, the God of Thunder who was the strongest person in the world. Christian was very lucky to be chosen as Thor and did a great job acting out each part of the story!

We are very excited to be taking part in the Record Breakers Challenge – if we want to take part we have to complete the registration card and return it to school tomorrow. The challenge is to read six books during the summer holidays.

*URGENT* Annie School Show Requirements

Annie_logo_51c067bdb94f0As you know the whole school are busy rehearsing for the summer show.  The Primary 4 pupils are playing orphans from the Whitelees Orphanage and, if possible, are required to wear scruffy clothes and bring in dusters or cleaning utensils.  Emma K is an NYC girl and, if possible, should wear party clothes.  Our dress rehearsal is next Monday but we would be very happy if pupils could start bringing these items in as soon as possible and they can be stored in the classroom.

Mrs Hunter has also asked if pupils could bring in family photos that can be played on the big screen as part of a slideshow at the beginning of the show.  These would be scanned and returned the same day.

We are all very excited for the show and your help and support in providing costumes and photos is very much appreciated.

Flat Emily has been out and about again! This time she had an exciting time at the race track, racing on a go kart!

Emily is definitely much braver than me…I think I’ll stick to racing on Mario Kart! 😀 😀

Flat Emily Returns from Holiday!

Emily has been a very lucky girl and recently enjoyed a fun filled holiday in sunny Tenerife! She had a wonderful time building sandcastles at the beach and even had a ‘splashing’ time in the pool!

** Special Lunch **

HEADER_FANTASTIC

This week Primary 4 won Prize 3 of the ME Time Awards, which was ‘Special Lunches’. Each day we got to go into the lunch hall a bit earlier than all other classes so we could get first choice for our lunch. We also had beautifully decorated tables with special stars and table mats, it was great!

‘I liked it because it was a little quieter when we got in the hall first.’ – Christian

‘I loved getting in earlier than all the other classes!’ – Megan C

‘It was excellent because we didn’t have to wait for our dinners!’ – Robbie

At Assembly on Monday we found out that we had collected most ME Time Tickets AGAIN this week and we have now won Prize 4, which is ‘The Big Day In’!! We are now thinking of some ideas for our celebrations! We can’t wait! 😀

Trees

Finding the Age of a Tree

s_saisons_four_seasons_trees-555px

On Friday we visited the Nature Garden to find the age of some trees. We found out that to find the age of a tree that has been chopped down, you can count the annual rings. If the tree hasn’t been cut down, you measure the circumference of the tree in centimetres then divide it by 2.5. You divide by 2.5 as this is the average size, in centimetres, of a tree’s annual ring.

Try finding the age of some trees next time you are at the park!
