Welcome back to the new term, we would like to welcome all of the returning children back. We hope to meet all of our new children soon and we are sure they will all settle in well.
We have been really busy, learning lots of new things already.
The returning children have been taking on more responsibilities by helping the new children move around and explore all the areas of the nursery. We have been learning the rules and routines of each area and have been introduced to the Listening Lot Characters who help us with skills to support listening and communication.
Growing Vegetables
In August we picked the potatoes and carrots which we had grown in our recycled tyres. We added onions, leeks and stock cubes to make very yummy soup. We all ate some for our snack.
Look at the amazing knife skills we have and how safe we are being. We are so healthy eating all those yummy vegetables.
Active Schools
We have been learning some new skills at the gym hall with Raegan from Active Schools. We are using our bodies in different ways to move around the gym hall and trying tricky moves across the safety mats. We have also learned some new games like “Shark Attack”, “Caterpillars & Butterflies” & “Find the Colour”.
Loose Parts Play
“A ‘loose parts’ toy, is open-ended; children may use it in many ways and combine with other loose-parts through imagination and creativity.” – Play Scotland
We have added lots of new loose parts to the outdoor area thanks to generous donations from local businesses and staff.
Apple Tree
This year the apple tree has provided us with lots and lots of juicy apples. We picked them from the tree, washed them and cut them up to try at snack. We had so many apples that we decided to make apple pies. We had to roll the pastry really thin and cut circles out. Then used the safety knife to cut up the apples, adding some cinnamon(which reminded one girl of when she made Gruffalo Crumble).
They were delicious apples.
Planting
We have been recycling old bottles and creating plants pots with them. We put soil in with a bulb, choosing either tulips, daffodils or bluebells. We are beginning to understand that plants need the sun and the rain to help them grow.
