To further promote reading within our local community we partnered with a local sheltered housing complex, Baillie Court, to deliver a book lending service to residents.
Our first step was to include a book in the school Christmas hampers which were sent to residents. The literacy ambassadors selected the book for each hamper and included a personal note inside wishing the each resident a lovely Christmas and happy reading.
This proved a huge success with the residents contacting the school to show their appreciation.
On the back of this, a book lending service was devised whereby a box of books will be delivered to Baillie Court every 4-6 weeks, for residents to enjoy. Residents are also encouraged to make requests for specific titles and types of books which are fulfilled when possible.
Three of our literacy ambassadors helped to deliver the first drop-off of books.
