New Lanark

Pupils from Primary 1/2/3 and Primary 1/2/3L  recently enjoyed an outing to the New Lanark Heritage Centre to take part in some pond dipping and a mini-beast hunt.

The Guides from the Scottish Wildlife Trust, led us through the woodland to a lovely spot where all different kinds of beetles and beasties had taken up residence. Pupils had fun collecting some of the creatures in specimen jars, which allowed them to identify the species and have a closer look. After lunch on the tree stumps, we trooped to a nearby pond with nets and scooped up some pond water for closer inspection. We were treated to seeing some water beetles, fresh water shrimp, pond skaters and tadpoles. Who knew the pond would be so full of life!
