Mental Health Art competition

A group of pupils from the school’s art department entered the recent Mental Health Art competition run by the Scottish Mental Health Foundation. The pupils worked extremely hard and utilised their creativity to develop their illustrations, which were then judged by health professionals. The art competition asked pupils to explore the theme of ‘A Day in the Life’ for young people with long term physical or mental health conditions.

The school was delighted that one of our pupils, Eunice Onwubiko, was the overall winner of the competition and was awarded the top prize of an iPad. Well done to Eunice for her amazing line drawing. She was presented with the iPad by Iain French and Natalie Keil from the Mental Health Foundation. A thoroughly deserved win for her. All the work will soon be displayed in a travelling and online exhibition.

Braidhurst High will hold an Open Evening for P6 and 7 pupils and parents, and S1/2 pupils and parents, on Tuesday the 22nd of October, between 4-6.30pm.  It will give pupils, and their parents, a chance to see around the school, meet staff and participate in activities.  All staff would be delighted to welcome you to Braidhurst High, a school where pupils are supported in their aspirations, to help them achieve excellence.

READ TO SUCCEED

On Thursday 19th September a group of ten S1 pupils, accompanied by school librarian Mrs. Scott, attended the ‘Read to Succeed’ closing ceremony at St Ambrose High School. Pupils from across North Lanarkshire were brought together to celebrate the importance of reading and the many ways it can positively enhance their future careers.

The event was compered by author Keith Charters and included a keynote speech from Dan Freedman, the author of the highly successful football series ‘Jamie Johnson’, which has been televised for the CBBC channel. At the end of the ceremony each pupil was gifted a signed copy of ‘Born to Play’ by Dan Freedman, from the council’s Learning Hub, and had the opportunity to pose for a group photograph with Dan and their new books.
