Former pupil Tam Cowan visited the school last week on Friday 1st November to be interviewed by our budding S6 journalist Jay Blakeway. Tam happily answered all of Jay’s questions about his career as a writer and presenter whilst also offering some invaluable advice about the industry and how to break into it. Tam and Jay were pictured in-front of the school’s fantastic developing the young workforce wall display in the school foyer.
BRAIDHURST FOR MALAWI RACE NIGHT
On Saturday 2nd November the Malawi committee, led by P.E teacher and Malawi co-ordinator, Ms. Young, hosted a very successful race night. The event was well attended with parents and friends of the school raising essential money for such a worthwhile cause.
S1 BASKETBALL
The S1 basketball team were in action on Wednesday 30th October against Caldervale High School and after a tremendous effort on the court won their match.
OPEN EVENING
The school hosted a very successful open evening on Tuesday 22nd October. This event invited parents/carers and pupils from our cluster primary schools and current S1 and S2 year group and aimed to highlight what Braidhurst can offer young people in terms of their education, the wider school community and also the steps the school are taking to ensure that our pupils reach a positive destination when they leave.
Those in attendance began their evening in the school assembly hall where they could speak with staff and find out information on a variety of topics, including school clubs, our developing the young workforce programme, and pastoral support.
Groups were then taken on a guided tour of the school by senior pupils with parents/carers and pupils visiting departments and discover what pupils experience in each area of the school.
HALLOWEEN DISCO
Braidhurst’s annual Halloween disco proved to be another great event in the school’s calendar. The event was organised by the senior pupils and ably led by the school captains. The junior pupils thoroughly enjoyed the scary corridor and the spooky games. The seniors took their responsibilities seriously and throughout the night demonstrated initiative to ensure the evening ran smoothly.
FOOTBALL SUCCESS
Congratulations to Kieran Offord and Kyle Semple who featured in the U17 Scottish team in their Victory Shield match against Ireland on Monday 28th October. Both boys played very well with Kieran scoring two fantastic goals to ensure Scotland’s win.
U15 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Our U15 girls’ football squad were in action on Monday 28th October in a first round tie against Lornshill Academy in Alloa. The final score was 0-1 to Braidhurst with a fantastic goal from Shannon Morgan fifteen minutes from the final whistle. Well done girls on a fantastic result and Mia Buchanan was awarded Person of the Match.
