BRAIDHURST –V- CALDERHEAD
The start of the Lanarkshire Cup has arrived with an opening encounter against Calderhead HS. Straight from the kick off, Braidhurst put a lot of pressure on their opponents. The Braidy boys created several chances in the opening 10 minutes but after some great saves by the goal keeper and hitting the post the score remained 0-0. They continued to push for the first goal while the opposition tried to get hold of the ball. Ryan Lafferty opened the scoring in the 15th minute to make it 1-0. This spurred the Braidy boys on and with 20 minutes on the clock, James Miller scored his first goal of the evening to make the score 2-0. The next few minutes saw Braidhurst score another 2 goals in quick succession with Lewis Gracie scoring in the 22nd minute and Kyle Cunningham scoring in the 26th minute. On the stroke of half time James Miller stepped up and scored his second goal of the game to make the score 5-0. The beginning of the second half saw a handful of changes including switching to a 3-4-3 to see how the Braidhurst boys would cope. With only 5 minutes gone in the second half, Lewis Guy scored his first goal of the evening in the 40th minute. Marc Smith then hammered a shot from 25 yards, which flew past the goal keeper to make the score 7-0. Braidhurst continued to press and created seceral more chances which were kept out by the goal keeper who made good saves. The pressure proved to be too much and Lewis Guy scored his 2nd of the night on the 53rd minute. After some great play, Braidhurst continued to reate chances and in the 56th minute Aaron Black scored his first of the evening, this was followed closely by Kyle Cunningham’s second of the night on 66 minutes. Aaron Black finished the fine performance by scoring his 2nd and 3rd in the last 10 minutes. Well done to all the boys who played.

FUND RAISING
Pupils at Braidhurst High School along with Mrs McKay in the RME Department recently raised £50 for the charity Barnardo’s. The charity provided the school with the bear to raffle off and the pupils and staff were offered the chance to purchase a numbered square for 50p. The winning number was 76 and the winner was Mrs Allison (Principal Teacher of English) pictured holding the bear. This is just one of the worthwhile causes supported by the Charity Committee.

Braidhurst HS Vs St Margarets HS
BRAIDHURST HS v St MARGARETS HS
With the first game of the school year arriving and so many boys wanting to play for the school, the pupils selected to play in the first game knew this was their chance to shine on the pitch and off it. The weather conditions were not conducive to flowing football but the Braidy boys were keen to get started and attempt to stamp their mark on the game early doors. From KO Braidhurst dominated the possession and make inroads into the St Margaret’s defence but the ball in the final 3rd just wasn’t quite up to scratch to give the forwards a chance to score. The first half was a very controlled performance from the Braidhurst team as they stroked the ball around the pitch to try to find a space to attack. St Margaret’s continually had an answer and often tried to catch Braidhurst on the counter attack, calm defending from the back four and GK ensured that St Margaret’s were unable to score. As the half time whistle approached the first round of substitutes were made. Braidhurst continued to dominate possession but knew that St Margaret’s were very capable of building a quick counter attack.
At the beginning of the second half there were numerous changes to the starting 11. These changes soon made an impact and after good team play by James Miller scored to make it 1-0 Braidhurst. St Margaret’s were keen to get back in the game and straight from the KO threatened as some of the Braidy boys began to slacken, however they pulled together as a team to ensure that the score remained
Ten minutes later Kyle Cunningham popped up to score and increase the lead to 2-0. Braidhurst were very much in the driving position as we approached the end of the game and had started to put more pressure on our opponents. Kyle Cunningham scored again to add to his previous goal, making the score 3-0 and putting the game out of sight. Braidhurst were not content with 3 and continued to push for more. In the 53rd minute, James miller scored again to make it 4-0. In the last minute of the game, Reece Geddes fancied his chanced from a distance and after a deflection beat the GK to make it 5-0. Well done to all the boys who played, their behaviour, effort and attitude were a credit to the school both on and off the pitch.
