On Monday 14th June the Braidhurst community were given the opportunity to participate in a special IDL event during periods 6 and 7 to celebrate the Scotland team in their first match of the Euro 2020 tournament. Whilst watching the Scotland vs. Czech Republic game pupils accessed the ‘Learning through Football’ platform developed by the Scottish FA in an effort to engage more young people into football. Pupils and staff were also invited to wear something blue and donate £1 for St Andrew’s Hospice. Despite Scotland losing the match those in attendance still had a great time and managed to raise the fantastic amount of £210.
SENIOR EVENT
Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the school was determined to celebrate the departure of our fantastic senior pupils as they embark on the next stage of their lives in a Covid-secure leavers event. This year’s leavers event was hosted at the school rather than at an external location, taking place on Friday 11th June between 2pm and 5pm. The senior pupils grabbed the opportunity to wear their prom dresses and suits and were treated to a fantastic afternoon which celebrated their many successes throughout their time at Braidhurst. A welcome from Head Teacher Mrs Carolyn Rooney and Depute Head Teacher for S5-6 Mr David Gardiner followed by aa photo montage which captured everyone’s journey through Braidhurst from S1 to senior school. Afterwards food was served and photographs taken at the outdoor balloon wall. The event finished with the distribution of awards and a quiz. A huge thank you to the staff who helped organise the event and for ensuring that everyone stayed safe whilst having fun.
Railway Safety
IMPORTANT message from the British Transport Police
As lockdown eases and the school holidays approach, we’re expecting trespassing to increase.
If children and young people are drunk at a railway station or near the tracks, they’re heightening the risk that they will end up unintentionally getting injured on the railway. For this reason, we are urging parents to check in with their children as the summer holiday approach.

Stepping onto the track at any time or in any circumstance is dangerous. 25,000 volts of electricity can jump from overhead cables, the electrified third rail looks just like an ordinary rail, and modern trains can almost silently reach speeds of 125mph.
S4 Mental Health Day 2021
On Friday 18th June all new S4 pupils spent the entire day focusing on “Mental Health”. The focus of the day was to create awareness and provide pupils with self regulation strategies to improve their well-being through the ‘5 Ways to Well-Being’.
Pupils participated in variety of activities from orienteering, speed dating and tai chi – all with the aim of improving their social, emotional, cognitive and physical well-being.
Prizes were awarded to pupils that enthusiastically participated throughout the day and those that won the inter-house quiz in the final two periods. Well done to Atholl for winning prizes for their entire class!
Guest Speakers
Many thanks to Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service for taking the time to speak to our S2 pupils about anti-social behaviour in relation to fire and water safety.
Football programme transition visit 2021
The football programme transition visit will take place on Tuesday the 15th of June, between 1.45pm to 3.30pm, registration will take place from 1.35pm. You may already have received a letter detailing the visit, if not it is winging its way to you.
All football programme pupils will have the opportunity to take part in an induction session.
Pupils will require:
- Football boots/trainers
- Football kit
- Shin guards
- Water
Please accompany your child to the front gates of the school where they will be escorted into the building by guides. I would also ask that parents/carers do not stand on the pavement behind the pitch or on the grass embankment at the side of the pitch.

MIYO APPAREL: OPEN EVENING
MIYO will be holding an open night for Braidhurst on FRIDAY 11th June from 3pm to 7pm. This will allow parents to come to our warehouse store to buy uniform and be measured up for blazers etc.
