Braidhurst Bridges
All pupils from S1 recently took part in the Outdoor Classroom – a three day, school wide IDL project. Part of this time was spent in the technical department where the pupils had to use problem solving strategies while working as part of a team to build a free standing ‘Tower’ from plastic straws and a then a paper ‘Bridge’, which was tested to destruction.
Many of the pupils demonstrated creativity, team work and leadership and communication skills with Skye, Josh, Leia and Adam from 1AL3 coming out on top with a score of 95 points – well done!

Revision Resources for CfE Highers and National 5s

The National Parent Forum of Scotland has produced Revision in a Nutshell guides for the new Highers (20 subjects) and updated Revision guides for National 5s (20 subjects). These revision guides contain direct links to SQA specimen question papers, exemplar question papers plus past question papers, where appropriate. The guides advise learners to check with their teachers to make sure that material is relevant. The guides are primarily intended to provide the SQA direct links by subject in one place, and to give some additional revision opportunities.
NLC Spring Concert 2015

The 2015 North Lanarkshire Schools Spring Concert took place on Monday evening in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The annual event showcases the best musical talent North Lanarkshire has to offer and Braidhurst was extremely well represented ranging from S1 to S6 performing in six different musical groups.

Zoe Oliphant, Tegan Martin, Scott Allan, Rachel Ross, Scott Bell and Joseph Farmer were part of the Wind Band, Samantha Keenan, Melissa Rodger and Natalie Ferguson played in the Prep Band while Sam Bell, Sarah Cooper and Kiera Grant all sang in the Chorus. Finally Hannah Allan played in both the Wind Ensemble and also the Jazz Orchestra.

The standard required to be members of these bands is extremely high, with many requiring an audition to join. Miss Donnelly, Principal Teacher of Performing Arts said, “I’m extremely proud of all of pupils who represented our school and delighted to highlight some of the many talents the pupils of Braidhurst have to offer”.

The event itself included over 500 pupils from both primary and secondary schools throughout the authority including the largest Preparatory band in Scotland with over 100 members. The atmosphere at the concert was electric with the crowd enjoying a wide variety of music from jazz and rock to traditional folk and classical.
