AUGUST INTAKE

Braidhurst High recently held a very productive meeting for parents of the new intake in August. Prior to the start of the meeting, Academy Uniform Company sold uniform. The rector, Mr Hannan, welcomed parents and outlined key aspects of the school while emphasising the desire for parents to become fully engaged and work with staff during their child’s time in the school. Ms Ruth Anderson, Depute in charge of the first two years, then outlined the timetable arrangements for the following two days visit to Braidhurst. The school also encouraged involvement in the Parent Teacher and Friends Association by welcoming new members.

COACHING SESSION

Around forty primary seven pupils who have been selected for the Scottish FA School of Football and Performance School of Football projects based in Braidhurst, recently attended an after-school training session where they worked with SFA coaches Paul Burns and Gordon Craig. This was a high intensity session allowing the players to sample what they might expect when they join the school in August. The pupils were also fitted for SFA kit which is provided and must be worn for the daily coaching sessions.

SCOTTISH SELECTION

The school recently learned the excellent news that no fewer than eight of the pupils involved in the SFA initiatives running in the school have been selected to participate in national camps. The boys will work with SFA staff including Scott Gemmill the International under 15 Team Coach and Neil Mackintosh the SFA Performance Manager. In the under 15 group Rico Quitongo, Dylan Falconer and Jake Hastie have been selected with Max Potter, Tom Leighton, Aaron Black, Kieran McGrath and Lewis Gamble selected at under 14 level

FOOTBALL FESTIVAL

Ten lucky 1st year pupils from Braidhurst high school were invited to Stirling’s Institute of Sport to play in a School of Football Festival to celebrate UEFA Grassroots Day. The pupils enjoyed playing in a number of matches in the sunshine throughout the day. Onlookers were impressed with their technical skills, positive attitudes and impeccable behavior.

Outdoor Classroom

First year pupils enjoyed an active and thought-provoking two days with the Outdoor Classroom Project. The school’s technical and Physical Education departments created a series of challenges from bridge-building to orienteering to test and improve the problem-solving and decision-making skills of pupils. Groups showed excellent team work and determination to complete all of the tasks to the best of their abilities. The pupils will now aim to transfer the skills learned in all areas of the project as they progress into second year.

Tinto Hill

A group of 35 S1 Braidhurst pupils took part in an organised ascent of Tinto Hill for the St. Andrew’s Hospice charity. All 35 managed to complete the difficult climb and enjoyed panoramic views and lunch at the top of the Cairn. The group were accompanied by Mr. McGuire and Mr. Hussain from the science department and classroom assistant Miss Sweeney. The weather conditions were excellent and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed their day out although there were some sore feet at the end!
