Update from Mrs Rooney

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and well.

As you know North Lanarkshire Council have now started to share information regarding the plans to return to school in August.  I am sure you can appreciate, there are a lot of decisions to be made to ensure all necessary health and safety requirements are met. This remains the key driver in all decisions.

Our staff have returned to school to prepare classrooms and the school environment for the new way of working. We are making sure all seats are 2m apart which will mean that pupils will need to be taught in smaller groups.

During the recovery period the priority is to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID 19. We have concluded that the safest approach is for pupils not to wear ties or blazers. We are expecting them to wear a white school shirt, black school trousers/skirt and black shoes or plain black trainers. A black v-neck or cardigan can also be worn. On days pupils have PE they should wear plain black joggers and white T-shirt with no writing or logos. This will mean they will not have to get changed for PE. Our young people may have to spend more time in the playground, waiting to come into the building, during intervals or lunchtime, so should bring a waterproof jacket with them. As soon as we come out of recovery we will immediately revert back to full uniform which will include a blazer and tie. As you are all aware our standards of dress at Braidhurst are high and we are keen to ensure we maintain these standards through this time.

Please be reassured staff at Braidhurst are working very hard to make sure we have a safe environment for all staff and pupils in August. We appreciate this is an anxious time for parents but please trust that I am doing my very best to ensure we provide what is best for all in our school community.

We will issue further information as soon as we have more to share. Please keep an eye on our website/app for updates.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

P7 Transition Survey

We would like to create a Microsoft Team for our new S1. Unfortunately we do not receive pupil records (and hence GLOW usernames) until mid July.

Therefore please could you fill out the form below to allow us to create an online informational portal for our new S1 cohort and help with P7 transition to secondary school.

All data will be securely stored with and then deleted by Aug 2020 at the latest (if not before)

Update 15/5/20

Hope you and your families are all keeping well and staying safe.

As a school we are trying hard to ensure we are engaging with our pupils. Their health and well being is of the utmost importance to us. Your child’s Principal Teacher of Pupil Support is trying to contact as many pupils as possible either through email or phone calls. We have also sent letters to every child. No one is sure when, or how, we will return to school but in the meantime please stay in touch. Even just send an email to the Pupil Support teacher to say all is well. Their email addresses are as follows:-

Atholl: llyttle@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk

Lorne: jyoung@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk

Morven: lauraneilson@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk

Rannoch: mmchugh@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk; amcintyre@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk

By now your child will have received a copy of their new timetable. We made the decision to ‘move’ your child on to try and ensure they can start different work and to help keep the momentum of teaching and leaning going. Staff are working hard to ensure work is posted on glow teams to make sure your child has plenty to do. Please ensure your child is engaging with the tasks.

If there are any problems with regards accessing glow please fill out our form here and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Alternatively email your child’s pupil support teacher. If there are any issues with regards their classes then please contact Mrs Macdonald (amcdonald@braidhurst.n-lanark.sch.uk) There is also information on other supports available to you during this difficult period.

We are constantly looking at how we can support your child’s learning from home, for example, by providing any stationery or subject specific materials they may require. Please check emails/twitter and our website regularly for updates. We are hoping to trail some different ways!
