Braidhurst S2 Football: Lanarkshire Cup Round 1

Braidhurst Under 14s began their Lanarkshire Cup campaign in the best way possible by sweeping aside Coatbridge HS 12-0 in the first round. Dean Watson opened the scoring for the home side within the first ten minutes with a great free kick that crept inside the goalkeeper’s near post. Further strikes soon followed from Stuart McKinstry, Dean with another, Matthew McDonald and Robbie Shanks to put the hosts in a commanding 5-0 lead. Aaron McDougall fired in one more and Braidhurst found themselves 6-0 up going into half time. It didn’t take long for the goals to start coming in the second half, Aaron doubling his goals tally for the night with a powerful finish. Substitute Aidan Brownlie then netted for Braidhurst, before Kyle Fleming got in on the act too. Stuart fired in his second for the evening to take the score into double figures, Nathan Spence added another, and Dean finally completed his hat-trick to make the score line a resounding one for Braidhurst. Mr O’Toole was delighted with the professionalism and performance of all boys involved. The Under 14s are now into the last 16 of the competition where they will host Dalziel HS in a local derby!
