Letter from Head of Service

Attached is a letter from Vivienne Cross, Head of Education, which was sent out today.  Please note that Friday 1st May is now an In-Service Training day to allow teaching staff in Moray secondary schools time to prepare for the early moving on of the timetable. Please note that this is not an extra day but the INSET planned for the 14th of May brought forward.

15th May is still an INSET day and 8th May is a public holiday so no scheduled classes, setting of work or communication with class teachers will be available on any of those days just as would be the case were we physically in school.

Letters outlining the moving on of classes into the new session’s  ‘timetable’ from next Monday and choice of course outcomes will be sent home this week explaining how this will work. The rationale behind all this is to engage and motivate our learners and make the best use of the time created by the cancellation of SQA exams and exam leave. Students will be able to complete work still required to be done and make a start on some new level courses.

Rest assured that well-being and equity are very much at the heart of all our decisions. We don’t want anyone to be left out or left behind.

Moray Educational Psychology Service: announcement about support

‘Moray Educational Psychology Service know that school staff are working hard to provide quality information to parents to help their children’s wellbeing and education. As these are unusual and challenging times we would like to provide a wider service to families to help support this work. If you would welcome the opportunity to chat about any social, emotional or educational concerns about your child with our link Educational Psychologist, Kirsty MackIntosh, they can be contacted via email on Kirsty.MackIntosh@moray.gov.uk or a telephone message can be taken on 01343 550999. DYW Child to Work Campaign

Please find below a message to Parents/Guardians from Aimee Stephen, Employer and School Liaison, DYW Moray:

As many parents/guardians will be juggling working from home and home schooling, DYW nationally wanted to use this as an opportunity to encourage everyone who can to get involved with our Bring your Child to Work Day (Home Edition!).

Involving young people in what you do during your work day could inspire and raise their awareness of the world of work.  By following the national campaign across social media we can continue to showcase the variety of careers on offer.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

Step 1: Pledge your support for the campaign and mark Thursday 23rd April 2020 in your diary and let us know that you are taking part.  Help us by spreading the word with colleagues, friends and family!
Step 2: On Thursday 23rd April, post a photograph of yourself and your children working at home. Remember and use the hashtag #DYWChildtoWork and tag us – @DYWMoray. If you don’t use social media and want to be involved, you can send your photo to myself (aimee.stephen.moray@uhi.ac.uk) and we will share it on your behalf.

Moray Digital Learning Team: Support For Parents

Parents/ Carers
A website and app have been created to help parents/carers support learners in accessing Glow and saying safe online.  The content on both the app and website are similar and the aim of both of these resources is to get learners logged into Glow where they can access long term support resources.

The app can be accessed via a computer by pasting the following address into the browser – mdltdigitaladvice.glideapp.io
From here you can view all the app and get instructions on how to access the app via your phone’s camera.   Most iPhones and Android will automatically give the user to option to add the app to their home screen.  This will create an icon and appear like a normal app, with any updates showing the automatically next time the app is opened.  Please note this is a web app and not available for download through the usual app stores, it can only be accessed by address above. 
 
In addition to these resources which have been created with parents/carers in mind, all users, including learners, will have access to the Moray Digital Learning Team SharePoint site which contains the majority Digital Learning support materials.  Once logged into Glow there can be accessed using the following link – https://glowscotland.sharepoint.com/sites/MorayCouncil/MC/DIGILEARN
 
A tile has also been added to the Moray Council Launch Pad in Glow to allow users to access the site directly.  The SharePoint site is updated daily with new support materials including How to Videos and a digital tip of the day.

Submitting Work Online

Several people have been wondering what to do about submitting work online via either SMHW or Teams. This information is intended to make that easier for you.

Wishing you all health and happiness as we go (virtually) back to school.

We return to  learning, studying, new experiences, helping, staying in touch, reading, drawing, exercising, cooking, writing, counting… and general STAYING AT HOME!

Check out Glow and SMHW for work and activities. Paper packs where required will be prepared during the week.

Latest SQA Statement

We have received an update from SQA today. They have provided guidance for learners, parents, and carers here:

Main points summarised here to reassure you:

  • SQA are  extending the existing deadline for receiving these estimates to 29 May, from the original date of 24 April.
  • Everyone at SQA is working to ensure that learners will receive their results no later than Tuesday 04 August, as originally planned.
  • SQA have decided not to mark any course work as this is the fairest way to proceed since some had been submitted, some had not and given public health guidance, they are now unable to mark any work submitted.
  • A free appeals service will be available, to ensure that schools and colleges continue to have a mechanism to question any result.
  • SQA will provide detailed guidance to schools and colleges on how to determine and submit the required estimate information after Easter, and by 20 April 2020.

Therefore until then we will be unable to answer any detailed queries. This is all the information we have for now.
