Collaborative Literacy: Literacy Through Play

Join us for our first ‘Literacy Through Play’ event for Primary practitioners which will kick off a series of Literacy focussed sessions providing the opportunity for FVWL colleagues to share good practice and build a collaborative network.

This session will cover the progression of teaching Literacy through a play-based pedagogy in Primary 1 and Primary 2. We will discuss what a typical week would look like within Literacy, covering both the formal teaching aspect as well as developing Literacy more informally through free play. We will also share a variety of documentation and assessment strategies that we have found to be effective within Literacy.

FVWL RIC Easter School – recorded lessons

We are delighted to be offering a range of recorded lessons on our FVWL RIC YouTube Channel which can be fully and freely accessed over Easter and beyond … This range of resources is continually evolving and will be added to as the session progresses.

For our Easter school we will have lessons for Senior Phase pupils designed to support them to succeed in National 5 and Higher SQA assessments.  So far these include: Maths, English, Geography, History, Modern Studies, Classical Studies, Computing Science, Design Manufacture, Biology, Health and Food Technology.

We are also offering a range of Literacy and Numeracy lessons for BGE pupils.  There will be over 50 lessons available initially and these will be added to as the session progresses.

FVWL RIC Easter School

Live lessons:

We are delighted that e-Sgoil and our Forth Valley and West Lothian Regional improvement Collaborative are offering an Easter programme of real-time, interactive webinars covering Nat 4 to Advanced Higher, for Scottish Senior Phase learners. The programme is not designed to deliver whole course content but will focus on key aspects of the subject(s) and hints and tips on how to be successful in assessments.

The programme which covers over 60 courses runs from 6th – 16th April and there will be three Live Webinars per course. Webinars are run through Microsoft Teams, accessible through GLOW logins, and will use a ‘flipped learning’ approach. This means that young people will have had access to high quality, online resources prior to attending each webinar.

Week 1: 6 – 9 April 2021

·         Start times are from 1.00pm -5.00pm each day.

·         Subject Webinars will take place on Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday e.g. English could be at 1.00pm on Tuesday and Thursday and Biology at 4.00pm on Wednesday and Friday.

Week 2: 12 – 15 April

·         e-Sgoil Easter study support webinars will be running as per the existing e-Sgoil evening webinar schedule. Additional webinars have been arranged to match week 1 provision.

Useful information

·         The focus for the webinars will be on helping pupils succeed in SQA assessments as part of the Alternative Certification Model.

·         Resources will be posted in the Webinar teams and they will either be SQA past papers or assessments as well as any relevant materials from West OS and the Supported Learning materials from the National e-Learning Offer.

Joint e-Sgoil/FVWL Easter School Offering

We are delighted to be able to share more details of our Joint e-Sgoil/FVWL Easter School Offering which we hope will serve to complement the fantastic ongoing work of our schools. We are offering over 180 live lessons of National 4 to Advanced Higher for Senior Phase pupils with a focus on key aspects of the subjects and hints and tips on being successful in assessments. Pupils would need to sign up if they wish to attend the eSgoil live lessons using this eSgoil Easter Study Support sign up form Please see attached two week programme.

This two week programme of live lessons will be complemented by a range of supported study recorded lessons on our FVWL RIC YouTube Channel created by commissioned RIC practitioners who have SQA experience. We would welcome your support in sharing this professional opportunity with your staff who should discuss this with you first and then complete the FVWL RIC Virtual Learning Volunteer Application Form asap.

Welcome to our Curriculum and Virtual Learning Lead

I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up my role as Curriculum and Virtual Learning Lead and working as part of the Forth Valley and West Lothian Regional Improvement Collaborative team. I have been teaching in secondary schools for 22 years and enjoyed being a Depute Headteacher for the last 7 years at St Mungo’s High School. I have worked collaboratively with primary colleagues and fully appreciate the dedication and commitment from all staff to support our learners through their 3-18 journey and beyond, driven by the belief that our young people are at the heart of everything we do.
I hope to support staff and work collaboratively so that Forth Valley and West Lothian is where children, young people, staff and families thrive in an exciting, ever-changing digital world and that our innovative, flexible, personalised curricular experiences empower all to fulfil their potential.

A Conversation about Parental Engagement

Are you teaching using Microsoft Teams? Are you wondering how others are using the features of Microsoft Teams with their learners?

Then why not join in a chat with colleagues doing likewise from other schools in Forth Valley and West Lothian Regional Improvement Collaborative (Clackmannanshire, Falkirk, Stirling and West Lothian) – share what’s worked for you and your learners, and hear from others.

Join educators from across FVWL RIC for a wee blether on how Microsoft Teams has been used across the curriculum. Share what’s worked for you and your learners. The conversations will be facilitated by Education Scotland and FVWL RIC digital officers. There are different sessions for educators to choose depending on whether your pupils are first level, second level, third level or fourth level, so you can join in whichever sessions suit you.

FV&WL RIC Workstream Plans 2019-2020

We have set out our vision and priorities. In this document workstreams provide a detailed overview of their aims, priorities and plans set out in short, medium and long term timescales for implementation.

 

FV&WL RIC Workstream plans 2019-2020

 

The underpinning workstreams are Improving Performance, and Career Long Professional Learning (CLPL), which support the work of the core priority work streams: Numeracy, Literacy and Early Learning and Child Care (ELC). New workstreams have also been introduced this session: Health and Wellbeing (HWB), and Curriculum including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

We work in close partnership with colleagues in Community Learning and Development (whose plan is included in this document) and the RIC Educational Psychology team who are supporting the CLPL plan. The
RIC Education Scotland team have worked collaboratively with the RIC Strategic Board and the Connect workstream leads to develop an offer of support that ties with local authority and national plans.
