At Craighead Primary School pupils discuss the ways in which they have helped develop Convention of the Rights of the Child in the wider community. They outline the work they do to inform others about Fairtrade and global issues. They are encouraged to have their right to be listened to by participating in school committees that create choices for their school community.

Effective approaches to early years and early intervention policy in Ferryfield Nursery strongly to promoting and upholding children’s rights as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and indeed those rights should underpin all policy for children.

Mearns Primary, a large school with 950 children on their roll, began their journey to rights based learning in 2008. See staff and pupils as they explain how they have linked rights to anti bullying, eco schools and global citizenship.

Children’s views, values and attitudes are shaped largely by family and more indirectly by communities, which can support parents to improve outcomes for themselves and their children. In Newark Nursery as children develop their own interests and preferences they become increasingly aware of their needs. Staff consult directly with children where possible and appropriate.
