-Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

In concern that persons with disabilities continue to face practical and attitudinal barriers to their participation as equal members of society, the UN drafted a convention specifically for persons with disability.

There are an estimated 200 million children with disabilities in the world, out of a global population of about 2 billion children. In other words, approximately 10% of the total population of children, the majority of whom live in developing countries, are born with a disability or become disabled during childhood.                                                                                                                       A significant number of the impairments, and consequent disability, experienced by children are directly caused by preventable factors, including poverty, malnutrition, violence, accidents, trauma, war and preventable disease.
